For months, Adam Cole taunted Ring of Honor by claiming he had a secret “mentor” who was helping him become a perfect champion and who would ensure victory at Final Battle. Cole promised that not only would he retain his ROH World Championship in New YorkCity, he would finally reveal his new associate. From the ROH locker room to the fans at home, everyone had a guess. But when Matt Hardy slithered to ringside and planted Jay Briscoe with a Twist of Fate, the alliance was revealed. A year ago, there’s no way anyone could have seen this coming. But as we witness Adam Cole’s previously honorable, humble veneer chip away more every day, he’s becoming the perfect counterpart to the always self-centered, selfish Matt Hardy.
Despite retaining his title, Adam Cole ended Final Battle on his back after a vicious knockout blow from Chris Hero’s golden elbow pad. Hero made it immediately clear that he wants to be part of the ROH World Title scene by targeting the champ and his “mentor.” At the same time, “Unbreakable” Michael Elgin and Jay Briscoe are unlikely to slink quietly from the scene after the chaos that was our Final Battle main event and the attack that followed.
With emotions boiling, Nigel McGuinness has decided to make another 3 Way match for Wrestling’s Finest in Pittsburgh. However, this will not be a traditional “rematch” – it will be a gigantic Elimination Tag Team Match!
The first team will be the newly formed duo of Adam Cole and Matt Hardy. Clearly, wherever Cole goes, Hardy will be lurking somewhere ready to interfere like he did at Final Battle. In Pittsburgh, he won’t have to worry about assisting the champ behind the referee’s back because he is now Adam Cole’s sanctioned tag team partner!
The second team pairs “Unbreakable” Michael Elgin with the returning Chris Hero! In Hero’s final ROH match, it was Elgin himself who defeated him. Now both men want to get their hands on Adam Cole. Obviously, Nigel McGuinness will be watching this tag match for guidance on future world title challenges. Both Elgin and Hero will be looking to impress – but they know only one man can pin the World Champion. If they can function as a unit, Chris Hero and Michael Elgin could be an unstoppable team not just in this match, but in the future.
Finally, the third team in this Elimination Tag will be Jay Briscoe reuniting with his brother, Mark! In the past year, the Briscoes have primarily focused on their singles careers, with Jay even winning the World Championship and Mark challenging him. But in the end, they’ve always been there for each other. So when Mark Briscoe saw his brother needed someone to counteract Matt Hardy, he immediately stepped in. The Briscoes are a legendary tag team in ROH. Is there any way 2 brand new teams can overcome these brothers who have been teaming for life? You have to come to Pittsburgh to find out!
