The Dog Pound is back with another edition dedicated to you, the fans of professional wrestling! I hope everyone had an exciting holiday, and please let that excitement continue as the New Year is nearly upon us. With the new year, it is time to make some changes...for the good of course, and the game is to see who can keep their resolutions the longest before they break! I keed, and I wish all of you a very safe and happy 2008.
Now enough with the mushy stuff, this is The Dog Pound and it is time to get down to business. Today I have a wrestler who I thouht I'd never want to write about. This is a man who I (like many) thought would never last in the business, but lately the more I watch him, the more respect I gain for him. Who am I speaking of? Why it's none other than Mr. Mike "The Miz" Mizanin of course! A man who has come such a long way in such a short time if you really think about it; and really he has given us all...a dose of reality.
The Miz started out just like anyone else that aspired to become a professional wrestler, he had a dream. You see "The Miz" itself was just the alter-ego of Mike Mizanin; a character designed to let the true inhibitions out into the real world. "The Miz" didn't care what everyone else thought of him, and this folks became the greatest asset to beginning a true career as a professional wrestler.
You may have recognized The Miz from his many, many, many stints on MTV reality shows, and the fact that he joined the last Tough Enough competition in 2004 may have had wrestling fans around the world groin with sickness. How could he do this? Was this a publicity stunt, or was he actually trying to do the real thing? Fans found out the answer soon after; take a look now at the tail end of 2006. The "winner" of the 2004 Tough Enough, nowhere to be found in the wrestling business; The Miz.. well he is one-half of the WWE tag team champions! Now tell me, did ANYONE see that coming?
As I said, I like many was not too fond of the idea of The Miz joining the wrestling family. There was something about him that didn't quite fit. However, I recently sat down and again watched the triple threat match from Survivor Series featuring Miz, John Morrison, and CM Punk and I came to a conclusion; the Miz has done it. His dream of one day becoming a WWE superstar has been fulfilled. How many wrestling hopefuls around the world can say that?
I must admit, Miz has come a long way since the 2004 TE competition; I mean a LONG way. Now, he has earned his first taste of WWE gold as a tag team champion. Think about it, the Miz has forever etched his name into WWE history as a tag team champion. Even if this is as far as he ever gets with WWE gold, he has accomplished more than many others do throughout their careers.
Miz plays a cocky, chick-magnet type heel that fans love to hate, but after seeing how far he has come, and truly how much he is willing to learn from this craft, I find myself starting to cheer for him. You read that right, cheer for him. I think the longer the WWE pushes him as that heel that came from reality tv, it will make a face-turn that much more meaningful. I believe Miz has the tools to get the fans on his side in due time.
There is no denying the charisma Miz possesses. I think there is so much excitement for the business at times that he has a tendency to over-do it to an extent and that is what may hurt him. He is learning however, and watching him week after week I see the improvements he is making. Every wrestler has to start somewhere and one half of the tag team champions is not a bad place to begin.
If the former reality star Mike Mizanin can come virtually from nowhere and make it big in the WWE, than that is proof that dreams do come true. He had a dream and has stuck with it despite what all the critics (myself included) had to say about him. For that, I can respect Miz and in time, I believe many others will too.
So ends another edition and remember, you are always welcome...at The Dog Pound.
