WWE RAW Results (05/12/08) Jim Ross welcomes us to the Joe Louis Arena as we go into the show with the lights out in the arena. The lights come back on and William Regal is in the ring...
First and foremost, I apologize for being a bit later than usual. I am in the middle of putting together my final Senior Portfolio and am in the midst of getting my first professional internship. My college graduation is not far off, and now is the time to buckle down. There is however, time for one thing...and that's good 'ol fashion wrasslin'!!
There is one thing I've realized, since I've been a fan of professional wrestling for as long as I can remember, there is always time for it! As a dedicated fan, there are times you have to sit there and ask yourself, "Why am I watching this?" Because, let's be honest, wrestling these days isn't exactly jaw-dropping and (at times) not even that entertaining! But the fact is, through all the crap and all the times you sit back disgusted with what is being shown, you cannot stop watching.
This is what it means to be a truly dedicated fan. Forget about the people that say it's fake. If they don't understand the difference between SCRIPTED and FAKE, then they'll never understand wrestling. Being dedicated means, sitting there watching Hornswoggle kiss Vince's ass, being disgusted and upset because you want actual wrestling, yet still sit there and watch what they present.
Dedicated. Bitching and moaning about those wrestlers that you feel deserve to be pushed, yet still sit back and accept the fact that people like John Cena are running the show for years to come. Dedicated is knowing that the creative team has the potential for some good, solid stories, and you're willing to sit and wait through all the crappy ones until that ONE good one comes along.
Being a dedicated and devoted fan, for the most part always seems to start from a young age. Like growing up a fan of your favorite sports team, wrestling is the same way. The first match I have in my recollection is Shawn Michaels defending his InterContinental Championship against the freak Goldust. I wanted Michaels to beat him to a bloddy pulp, and since the I have been a fan.
Lately, being s dedicated fan means having to take all the negative things along with it. That fact that some view it as homosexual, the fact that these performers die often at a young age, the fact that we fans now have murders in our medium which we love so much. The fact that we fans KNOW how much the product as a whole has dropped drastically and are still willing to watch. Being a fan, a truly dedicated fan, means taking the bad, ALL the bad, with the good.
I will admit, because I have been a fan for so long and have seen some of the classic stuff from the early 70's to early 80's, there is not much that surprises me anymore. This however, is also part of being a fan. Knowing when to sit back and suspend your disbelief long enough to just enjoy what you're watching. I'll admit, I marked out when Shawn Michaels returned after four years to the nWo. I was excited when Jeff Hardy returned; and even though I knew when he was coming back, I marked when Chris Jericho made his long-awaited return!
This past week, and this coming week, will be the busiest I have ever been, but on Monday's, Tuesday's, and Friday's I will set aside those two hours (plus two on Thursday's for TNA) to enjoy what it is that I love. Good 'ol fashioned wrasslin'!
Thus ends another edition. Comments and thoughts are always welcome. Until next time remember, you are always welcome...at The Dog Pound.
