Funk's Corner - New Champions in Japan Muto / Suwama
Date Added: May 01, 2008
Story By: Dory Funk Jr.

With Keiji Muto's recent victory over Shinsuke Nakamura (4/27 in Osaka) and Suwama's recent victory over Kensuke Sasaki (4/29 at the Aichi Perfectural Gymnasium), All Japan Pro Wrestling now has the two most important Japanese wrestling championship belts under their banner, the Triple Crown Championship (Suwama) and New Japan Pro Wrestling's IWGP Championship (Keiji Mutoh).

The credibility of these two championships and the popularity of Muto (Known in America as Great Muta) and Suwama's wrestling background (Chuo University Amateur Wrestler) - Same University as Jumbo Tsuruta) will have a big influence in the popularity of All Japan Pro Wrestling.

Great Muta was a star performer on Turner Broadcasting's WCW at a time when it was the most popular wrestling show on television.

Jumbo Tsuruta was an Olympic wrestler recruited by Giant Baba and sent to Amarillo, Texas for training to be a professional wrestler. Jumbo was one of my best students ever.

Great Muta teams with Dory Funk Jr. and Osamu Nishimura in a Six Man Tag Team Match against the Voodoo Murders on !BANG! TV on our website.

The Funking Conservatory is the Official American Developmental Training Center for All Japan Pro Wrestling.
