WWE RAW Results (06/30/08) We go to a prerecorded video of Shane McMahon talking about Vince and saying besides what we know, Vince is a very private person and to protect his privacy...
Ladies and gentlemen, the "Dog Pound" has returned, and this will be my final column...as a college student! Now, let's get down to business.
The topic today, is one that has gotten under my skin for quite awhile now; well since just after Wrestlemania. Any ideas? Yeah, I want to talk about how this years Mr. Money In The Bank is getting treated more like a jobber, and less like the main event star he should, and CAN be. I know the majority of you feel the same way, so what can the WWE do to fix it?
Ever since fans heard of Punk's arrival to the WWE (through Ohio Valley Wrestling) he's had quite a following. Punk is a charismatic character always talking about the straight edge lifestyle and how his drug is competition. Well where is the competition and respect for the man who holds the prestigious Money In The Bank briefcase? The reason that Punk is so over is because he has shown respect for the business, and the fans respect him for that. He has proven to be a great talker on the mic, mat wrestler, and submission wrestler. Again, where is the respect?
When Punk won the breifcase at 'mania, thousands of fans were both happy, and slightly shocked. Why? No one ever though the WWE would take a chance on someone who THEY consider an "outsider." Now, since he has won it, what has he really been able to accomplish? Hmm? If it has taken you a few minutes to think of something, don't be alarmed, because Punk has in fact, done very little. Through no fault of his own of course.
Think about it. Since winning at 'mania, Punk has lost more matches than any other previous MITB winner. First was a loss to Chris Jericho the very next night on Raw. Bad booking? Second, came a losses to guys like Chavo Guerrero, John Morrison, and even Chuck Pulumbo. Tell me, does this make any sense for the guy that just beat 6 other guys in a ladder match?
Now, the point of having the Money In The Bank contract is, it allows the holder to challenge for any title at any time within the next year. So, my question is, with the consistent losing, how can Punk be looked at as credible when he challenges for a title? The next steps would be to somewhat rebuild Punk again as a legit threat; then have him build up and challenge at a big time PPV like SummerSlam.
At this rate, it looks as though Punk has forgotten the power he holds with that breifcase. What would be awesome to see is: Edge wins the title at Judgement Day, then they build up an Edge/Punk fued for SummerSlam! Stranger things have happened! When all is said and done however, the WWE will do what they want, and Punk will get whatever he gets!
CM Punk is a credible champion, and the WWE has seen what he can do. This is a situation where it is truly up to the fans to get behind Punk and show the WWE that he IS champion material (much like Jeff Hardy). CM Punk will be a champion, and you can "bank on that!"
