What Pro Wrestling is Missing
Date Added: October 21, 2009
Story By: Rio Ashley
Good day! Being the Master of Old School, I figure it's my duty to discuss what this " Sport Entertainment" (which I would refer to as Wrestling from now on) is missing. First and foremost, it's missing the drama of the matches, once upon a time, the matches told stories, but with the world wanting faster results,it seems that the matches don't have that intrigue it once did; the good guy starts off strong, the bad guy gets his moments where he is completely dominating the match then the good guy makes the comeback to take the victory or the bad guy cheats to win. Now it's all about who has the most devastating moves in a match and how often they use them during the match (the oooh! effect as I call it). The next thing wrestling is missing is the "tease". Back in the day, you NEVER saw the champion on TV wrestling all the time, as matter of fact, he was only there for interviews and occasional run-ins, that's it. If he was involved in a feud, there would be times where he and the opponent would face one another but only in sneak attacks, not in matches, now the opponents would be involved in all kinds of matches ( tag team, handicap) leading up to a PPV, then once the big match comes around, it's inconsequental. Which brings to my final point; Wrestling is missing the "build up" once upon a time, a major card like Starcade or Wrestlemania was the major show of the year so for the last two months prior to the shows there would be the build up; the wrestlers involved in feuds would slowly bring things to a boil where their main match at the card was one you really look forward to (pretty much like my second favorite wrestler pictured to the right, and Hulk Hogan did in WM 1), or like the I quit match (TA and Blanchard) or even during the "attitude era" the first ladder match (Ramon and Michaels). Now, with the contiuous Monthly and even bi-monthly PPV'S, There is no bulid up just feud after feud. For example, the Jeff Hardy/ CM Punk lasted for a month with lots of Hardy /Punks matches in between the two PPV's which happened in the same month, then on to the CM Punk/ Undertaker angle. If Pro Wrestling went back to these ingredients, then our sport will get back to it's glory days. Next time I'll talk about one thing I wish would come back!
