Jeff Hardy actually signed a contract with TNA over a week ago. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but TNA officials are asking for roughly...
In my continuing saga of discussing what wrestling is missing, there is one thing from the past that is pretty much passe now. The Big Fat guy! Now, wrestlers have always been bigger than life characters but the one thing that it always had was the fat man. Once upon a time, a man that was 275 pounds was considered an big man, nowadays, that size is common. However, there was one thing that was always a treat, that was the fat man. Now, before I go on i want to say that there was a difference between the "big" man and the "fat" man , there was the big man like Andre the Giant, Sid Vicious, Brusier Brody, and Gorilla Monsoon. What I'm talking about is the FAT Man, these were the guys that you knew weren't good enough to win a title unless it was a tag title, but they were the men that would be able to execute giant athletic feats despite being a man over or near 400 lbs. Now, don't get it twisted, the Big Show is good in his own right, I saw this man perform a dropkick from the top rope, but as opposed to let's say Jerry "Crusher" Blackwell a man who by no means was in great shape but was able to do a dropkick, and although it wasn't on the par of a Kevin Von Erich or a Brad Armstrong the fact that at his size he was able to do one was remarkable in it's own right, but when Bam Bam Bigelow came on the scene he upped the ante of the fat man because of the fact that he used the ropes like a cruiserweight. Now, the reason the fat man was such a novelty was because you would see these guys on TV and wonder if a man can really be this big; therefore, mostly out of curiosity, they sold tickets. For example, how many times have we seen Vicera (pictured) and Abdullah the Butcher do a flying elbow, and although other people also used the flying elbow, the fact that these guys used it at their size really made it look especially devastating; also, how many times have the likes of Kamala,The One Man Gang, and Earthquake, amazed us with their splashes while getting six- seven feet off the ground, and the fat man was taken to a whole different level when Yokozuna arrived in the early 90's, with his athleticism while weighting at or near 600 lbs. Wrestling has always been a sport where the big man was always a necessity, but after the 80's boon of the muscle men, then the late 90's - early 2000's going with the smaller guys getting the nods the fat man has become a thing of the past. I, along with the other " Old Schoolers" will always have a place in our hearts for the Haystack Calhouns, Uncle Elmers, King Kong Bundy's, and the Tugboats. I also think that the Fat Man will be a welcome addition if they bring them back because it will be a nice break from the crappy wrestling, the stupid storylines, and the dreadful backstage mess and give the fans a match where they can go ohhhh! at the sight of a human doing something that will make a feelgood moment at the end of the day because they saw someone you don't see all the time and will be completely in awe!
