Christmas Battles

Ladies and gentlemen, let me start by saying Merry Christmas to you all. Now on to the topic, last week I was discussing how Thanksgiving has lost some of it's luster for Wrestling fans because of no more Starrcade and Survivor Series cards. Now, being christmas day, I feel that I should talk about a card that was always good to me and that was the World Class Championship Wrestling Christmas Star Wars that was held at Reunion arena. Now a Christmas card was a major staple in the territories back in the day but these cards, were held on Christmas night ALWAYS had something major happen; such as the first one I remember when Kerry Von Erich was battling Ric Flair for the world title in a cage and Michael Hayes was in the cage as a "special referee" (something that always ends in disaster) and as a result it turned out to be the beginning of the BEST feud in the sport ever; The Von Erich-Freebird feud. It also was a card where in 1986 later we saw the Chris Adams and Gino Hernandez team when it broke up after a match with the "cosmic cowboys" and started the feud that would mark the end of Gino's career and life. It was also the card where in 1989, the Freebirds had attacked Fritz Von Erich and caused him to have a "heart attack" and start the fans turn on the Von Erichs for their integrity. Those card were some of the most memorable I can remember. Later on WCW would not be undone there was a Starrcade that was on Christmas when Hulk Hogan took on Sting, the reason why I bring up these cards because they were cards where something BIG would happen just like on the Thanksgiving cards. Now there is a Smackdown special this year on christmas...will it be as special as those cards were? we'll see! Once again Merry Christmas from the King of Old School and be safe!
