Details On Hardy's TNA Contract
Jeff Hardy actually signed a contract with TNA over a week ago. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but TNA officials are asking for roughly...
Happy New Year old school fans...this is your buddy Rio Ashley here with my latest installment of what our favorite sport is missing. In the past you looked to PPV's for the main event, but there was also something that intrigued us; it was the tag team division. Back in the day, tag teams were as big as the singles, these were two or in the case of the Freebirds or the Russians three guys that always were together. These guys were primed in teamwork and doing moves that looked real fluid as if they were working as one a staple of the Hardy Boyz (pictured). These guys had tag team names like, the Road Warriors, the Rock n Roll express, the Rockers, the Midnight Express, Hart Foundation, etc. and they went out there and dazzled the crowds with the ways they worked together; nowadays, you get two singles guys that are put together and forced to be a team. What the tag team division had that made it work was a team rivalry that made things interesting. For Instance, The R-n-R express and the Midnight Express was a rivalry that main evented some of the NWA's shows in the 1980's, the rivalries would be interesting because of the drama the matches produced, the whole team concept; such as, if one was injured will the partner take up for him in the match?, and the fact that they could have singles matches with all four combatants getting involved. They even had tag team tournaments like the Jim Crockett Sr. cup where you saw some of the most tag team excitement anywhere because you had some of the best established teams you only heard or read about competing. Teams like the Fabulous ones, the Sheepherders, the Rock n Roll RPMS, the Mod Squad, and my all time favorite---the Mulkeys (yes, the generics) all of these teams would compete in an elimination tournament for a one million dollar prize that would cover two days. Now, you see teams put together so they can build the two characters for singles runs ( Miz and Morrison) and never get a convincing team concept . Don't get me wrong some of the best singles wrestlers came from tag teams ( Dusty Rhodes, Shawn Michaels,Scott Steiner, Booker T. and arguably the most successful, Bret Hart) But as tag wrestlers these guys were second to none because it takes a special breed of wrestler to forfeit singles glory for the sake of building a rep as a tag team specialist. Take Arn Anderson, a great singles wrestler that had major success, but an even better tag wrestler winning many tag titles with DIFFERENT partners . The Tag Team titles were once as prestigious as the World Title, now it's where you get two people that has a career stagnant and try to get them back to former glory (Jericho and Big Show). Back in the day when one tag member turned it was a big deal (they still bring up the Rockers breakup). Now you expect it to happen. If we want our sport to get back to it's former glory; they need to get back to some FULL time tag teams and let them stay together and have their own runs and drama and the shows will get more interesting.Next Monday I will talk about the one thing our sport needs to make it more dramatic. Until then...
