WWE video game fans can finally rejoice because this year's edition of the Smackdown franchise on the PS2 will feature online play! THQ announced today that WWE Smackdown vs. Raw for the PlayStation 2 would indeed feature online play.
Not too long ago a beta test was put forth by THQ and Sony to see how the Smackdown game would handle under online conditions. 4,000 lucky gamers were chosen at random to compete in this beta test and the results were supposed to be the telling factor as to whether or not the game would go online this year, it seems like they went very well.
THQ has been very secretive this year concerning their Smackdown game and the same goes with the announcement of the new online play as the only mode that they have confirmed is head-to-head mode which would be just a standard match. Beyond that nothing has been confirmed but they are expected to release more information concerning the new mode shortly. We'll keep you posted as the information breaks. Now if they could figure out a way to do a real 30-man Royal Rumble online....wooooh!
