Ever since my Q&A sessions for Smackdown vs. Raw, people have been emailing me they’re questions by the truckload. Why I thought that would change after SvR died down a little, I’m not sure. Now, I don’t get many SvR questions, but questions concerning Wrestle Mania 21 for the XBOX seem to fill my mailbox now. The following are the most frequently asked questions about the game. Note: I have no affiliation with THQ or Studio Giante. These questions are based on information available on the internet from various sites and interviews, and from information collected from magazines.
Q. Did the delay in the release date have anything to do with adding in any new wrestlers or arenas? A. As far as I know, no. There was a glitch in the online mode, causing it to freeze when there were matches involving more than two people. There were also a few minor problems that needed to be worked out, so SG (Studio Giante) felt it was best to hold off releasing the game until they could be worked out. There have been no additions to the roster (Austin, Carlito, etc) and no one has been removed from the roster.
Q. Do wrestlers have alternate attires? A. No. The only wrestlers that do are Rey Mysterio and BIG Show, but in Big Show’s case, it is either current Big Show or 2003 Big Show (with hair). SG felt it more important to work on graphics and game play rather than several outfits for each wrestler.
Q. Is there an Elimination Chamber match? A. No. Despite reports and rumors, Elimination Chamber is not in.
Q. Will be able to edit wrestler’s attires, moves and entrance music? A. No. SG wanted the game to have a realistic feel to it, so the ability to edit the moves has been removed to prevent people from changing Andre the Giant’s finishing move to the Lionsault. Attires cannot be changed, nor can entrance music. However, each wrestler does have their up to date themes in the game, including Edge and Christian (we’re still not sure about John Cena)
Q. We can defend our titles online, but can we defend them in exhibition matches? A. Yes, you can! Its much easier than the system used by Smackdown vs. Raw. When you create a title belt, it can be saved to your profile, which is protected by a password that you pick. Once in that profile, you can defend any belt saved with any wrestler (not a specific wrestler) against anyone in exhibition.
Q. Can titles be defended in triple threat and fatal four way matches? A. At the time this post is made, its an issue that hasn’t been addressed yet. With any luck, triple threat defenses will be included in the final build of the game. However, watch what you wish for, you might lose your belt without being pinned!!
Q. Can more than one title be on the line in one match? A. Yes, if there are two titles, they can both be defended in one match. However, the winner will simply unify the championships. Again, it hasn’t been addressed whether or not titles will be online in fatal four way situations, so its unclear if four titles can be online in one match.
Q. Is the WM21 arena in? A. No. The game begins shortly after WM20.
Q. Will legends have voiceovers in the game? A. For obvious reasons, some of them won’t be able to. For that reason, I do not believe that legends will have voiceover.
Q. The soundtrack for WM21 sounds exactly like the soundtrack from Smackdown vs. Raw. Is there any new music? A. Yes, there is. In addition to having many of the tracks from SvR in the game, WM21 will include exclusive tracks of its own.
Q. Will there be online tournaments for championships? A. I’m sure there will be. XBOX normally holds tournaments of some kind, and there will be plenty of people online eager to test their skill in a tournament.
Q. Are there any promotions or efeds for the game? A. Plenty. If you do a search on the net, I’m sure you’ll find plenty of small feds waiting for people to sign up. Some of them are on free board sites, and some paid out of their pocket to get their promotion started. I’ve seen quite a few, but if I had to pick just one, I’d say THIS ONE. This is the only promotion that offers complete video footage of their matches online, an in-depth win/lose record for its wrestlers, excellent role-playing and a top-notch staff. They do, however, for copyright reasons, insist that only original created wrestlers enter their promotion.
Q. Several wrestlers have been injured/released from WWE. Are they going to be removed from the game? A. No. Both Rhyno was released from WWE recently, will still be in the game. Randy Orton, who is injured, will still be in the game as well.
Q. Will we be able to play as non-playable characters in exhibition mode? A. No. The reason they’re called non-playable is because they aren’t playable.
Q. Has the game gone gold yet? A. To my knowledge, no. However, there should be no more delays in the game, and it should be shipped on April 18th as scheduled.
