What is the primary factor in determining what legends will be in the game? Is it determined by cost? Is it licensing issue? How does the legend process work?
There are a bunch of different ways that that is done. It's all about what the fans want. Focus testing, fan requests, and various other factors contribute to the process. There are some wrestlers that no matter how many requests we get can't ever go in the game. We also like to switch if up and offer new guys each year. The huge guys (like Hogan and Andre) we like to carry over because people want them, but we still want the new ones.
Why 3 Hogans? Why not just make one Hogan with 3 different attires? And if there are three Hogans, why not Mankind, Cactus Jack and Dude Love?
Hulk Hogan was the number one request by fans by an overwhelming number no matter where we looked. There's also a huge NWO following, and the model is similar to the regular Hogan so it was an easy one to put in there. Plus, it's kind of cool to have his three separate gimmicks and let people experience their subtle differences. Keep in mind, they play differently, they're rated differently -- it's not a cheap ploy. It's also our tribute to Hogan -- he was added to the Hall of Fame this year.
What weapons will be available? Do we finally get barbed wire or kendo sticks etc? With the addition of ECW One Night Stand, I feel this is a must.
Foley's Barbie (bat with wire), regular baseball bats, glass balls, pool sticks, tire irons, televisions, ring bell, championship belts, and several other things are all in there. We've added weight to them too. So you're going to move and use the steel steps a lot slower than you would when using a bat. The damage will be proportional too.
In previous years, wrestlers with higher strength attribute had a distinct advantage over wrestlers that were higher in other categories. One more point to strength had a much bigger effect than one more point to speed. Have there been any changes made this year to balance out the attribute system?
We've felt the system was already pretty balanced. Speed is only used for evasion -- not to win matches per se. It's all about how you use them and if you can take advantage of the plusses and minuses. If you're an offensive player, strength will mean more, but trust me -- if you play with Angle against another guy in a submission match, he'll kick your teeth in.
Last year, in Smackdown! vs RAW, when playing online, UK gamers weren't able to play US gamers because of different versions of the game. I know you don't wish to release info on the online mode at the moment but could you please verify that UK gamers will be able to play US gamers and vice versa this year in Smackdown! vs RAW 2006?
It just can't happen because of the framerate difference -- it would just be too difficult to do.
Will there be any downloadable content so we could have extras and upgrades that would otherwise not make it into the game?
Since we're not supporting the hard drive, it makes it difficult to do. We look at that ever year and you'll see it in the future, but not this year.
Is there a chance that THQ will do a "Legends only" wrestling game with Smackdown vs Raw engine in the near future? I know a lot of us old school wrestling fans would love to see such a game being made?
We feel the same way here when it comes to our love for the legends, but we have no comment on future plans.
