TORONTO, ON, May 6/08…The Fight Network has announced its supercard of live events for the month of May with big time boxing and mixed martial arts action, back-to-back-to-back, including the first live event to be broadcast on The Fight Network in the UK. As the number one combat sports news source, The Fight Network will offer live coverage of the athlete weigh-ins, and live pre-and-post fight coverage on Before The Bell and After the Bell with The Fight Network’s expert Mauro Ranallo.
MAY 17- Mijares vs. Munoz: 9 pm ET in Canada and Live in UK
Mexican boxing history will be made when WBC champion Cristian Mijares and WBA title-holder Alexander “El Explosivio” Munoz fight May 17th in the first super flyweight unification title bout in more than 10 years, live from the Auditorio Centenario in Gomez Palacio, Mexico, Miljares’ hometown. The 12-round co-feature pits Mexican warriors Omar Salado and Julio Cesar “Pingo” Miranda in a WBC flyweight elimination bout.
This fight also marks the first event to be broadcast live by The Fight Network in the UK on BSkyB.
MAY 24 - Hatton vs. Lazcano: 3:30 pm ET
There is no need to cross the Atlantic for a ringside seat at the biggest selling fight in British boxing history. The Fight Network has secured the exclusive Canadian television rights to the highly anticipated HATTON vs. LAZCANO fight airing live on May 24th at 3:30 pm ET. Ricky “Hit Man” Hatton (43-1, 31 KO’s), who faces dangerous contender Juan “The Hispanic Causing Panic” Lazcano (37-4-1, 27 KO’s) makes his first ring appearance since being stopped by Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the 10th round last December. Hatton’s homecoming will be in front of a sold-out home crowd of 55,000 passionate fans in Manchester City Stadium.
In the co-feature, current 140-pound IBF junior welterweight champion Paul Malignaggi defends his title against the man he took it from, Lovemore N’dou. Malignaggi outperformed N’dou in their first encounter in June 2007 to win a one-sided unanimous decision.
As a special promotion leading up to the fight, fans will have the opportunity to make the call on who will get knocked out May 24th. Starting May 8th, participants can submit their entry by sending a text message with the word FIGHT to 25852 and the final results will be compiled and shown in real-time prior to fight night on The Fight Network. Each voting fan will be eligible to win an exclusive Fight Network prize pack.
