Matt Hughes vs. Thiago Alves

Round 1
Alves easily stuffs a long-range single-leg from Hughes. He easily defends another and ends up on top after Hughes pulls guard. Hughes looked for an armbar from the bottom and ate a hard left hand. Alves stands and knees Hughes in the midsection. He shrugs it off and scores his first takedown of the fight. Hughes controls from the top but he struggles to mount any offense save for some elbows to the thigh from side-control. Alves gets butterfly guard but Hughes passes to half-guard. Alves gets back to his feet and is pulled into Hughes' guard.

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Alves
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Alves
Mike Fridley scores the round 10-9 Alves

Round 2
Hughes gets hit with a huge knee as he shoots in at the sound of the bell. The knee opens up a large cut near Hughes' right eye. Alves explodes into a flying knee that grazes a falling Hughes. Alves pounces with punches until referee Herb Dean pulls off the Brazilian at 1:02 of the second. Replays show that Hughes' knee was injured after getting hit with the flying strike.
