WWE Signs Afa's Son, No Cyber Sunday In UK, Cena
Date Added: October 30, 2006
Story By: Daniel Pena
source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

WWE signed Afa's son - and the younger brother of former WWE star Headshrinker Samu - Afa Anoa'i, Jr., to a developmental contract last week. This move had been expected for quite some time after he was done playing college football. Also, RAW Magazine featured an article on him in 2002 when he was still in high school. He's actually been wrestling since 1998 when he was merely 14 years old for his father Afa's World Xtreme Wrestling promotion. His cousin Joe, who is the younger brother of Rosey, is also under consideration after he graduates from from college. He currently plays for Georgia Tech, although he's publicly said that he's not that interested in professional wrestling for the time being because he wants to join the NFL. Although, when his football career is over, he'd then like to get into wrestling.

At this point, there are no plans for Cyber Sunday - or ECW's December To Dismember PPV - to air in the UK., although things can always change. WWE's contract with the parent company of Sky Sports calls for 8 PPV events a year and 6 more free specials on Sky 1. Their current contract only calls for 14 events a year. Cyber Sunday and the December To Dismember PPV go over that limit. Talks are still ongoing for a deal to be reached that would allow those shows to air in the UK.

John Cena's national ad for "Subway" will start airing in February and it could give a lot of exposure. Although, when "Macho Man" Randy Savage filmed commercials for Slim Jims in the 1990s, his Q rating was high among non-fans more for Slim Jims than from his wrestling.
