Tonight, ECW goes head to head against TNA. Thanks to the wonders of a DVR, I will be able to bring you the recaps of both shows, though TNA may be a bit delayed.
In our ECW main event, C.M. Punk will have a massive choice to make, pun fully intended. Punk must choose whether Mark Henry or Big Daddy V will face him in the ring, tonight.
We're on Thursday, this week, because Sci-Fi was running Tin Man. It was OK, but ECW is better. We start with Matt Striker telling C.M. Punk that he has to make the choice. "Pick Your Poison, Straight-Edger. No matter which you choose, you lose".
Let the titles roll!
We're in South Carolina, tonight. John Morrison, one half of the WWE (Smackdown) tag champs, makes his slow-mo intro. He's joined by the other half of the tag champs, The Miz. Joey talks about how Miz and Morrison attract women. Who cares? Miz and Morrison face the former ECW duo of the Major Brothers. In an insert video, the Majors make fun of the tag champs.
Match Highlights:
Collar and elbow to start. Miz is taken to town by Brett. Brett shoves Miz and then locks up the arm. Float over by Brett into a deep arm drag. Tag to Brian. Double slam onto Miz. Miz uses the hair to take control. Brian slides down and rolls up Miz. Miz rolls out of the ring, but a suicide dive by Brian takes Miz out. Morrison wants to attack, but Brett flies over the ropes. Brian gets caught with a cheap shot. Tag to Morrison. Double face plant by the tag champs. That move was amazing. Running kick to the face of Brian. Next week, we will be back on Tuesdays. Brian wants a tag, but Morrison uses the hair to sends Major to the mat. Tag to Miz. Miz drops an elbow and then locks up the head of Brian Major. Brian tries to fight out, but gets rushed into enemy territory. Miz and Morrison go for a double team move on Brian, but he flips over and runs to tag his brother. Brett hits some incredible moves on Miz and Morrison, including a great dropkick. Brett hits a high Thesz press for a two. Brett is sent crashing into his brother. Morrison grabs Brett and hits the "Brush With Greatness" corkscrew neckbreaker.
YOUR WINNERS: Miz and John Morrison
Punk will join us after these messages to give us his choice for an opponent for the main event.
We get a promo for Kofi Kingston. This promo is very 80-ish. I love it. Kofi takes out a bully on the beach. Kofi is a fun-loving Jamaican. This guy is going to be great. I see a feud between him and Carlito for the best Island/Carribean wrestler in WWE.
Punk tells Joey that he didn't come here to make a choice, he came here to battle. Punk tells Armando Estrada or Matt Striker to make the choice, he'll just take the fight to whoever steps through the ropes. Kelly Kelly, looking incredibly sexy, steps through the ropes for a mixed tag match. She will be joined by her paramour, Balls Mahoney, for this match. Oscar and Felix ain't got nothing on THIS Odd Couple. They are facing Kenny Dykstra and Victoria, next.
Balls and Kelly are talking strategy as we return. Kenny and Victoria make their entrance. Victoria has always been over-looked as a beauty, but she is very lovely.
Match Highlights:
Balls and Kenny kick it off. Collar and elbow into a Balls headlock. Kenny fights out. Huge dropkick by Kenny. Balls hits the Balls O' Fun, but Kenny ducks the final shot. Kenny scampers to the corner and tags Victoria. Tag to Kelly. Victoria attacks Kelly, but falls victim to a tilt-a-whirl headscissors that spins around for what seems like forever. Victoria traps Kelly in the ropes. Kelly shoves Victoria and then slaps the taste out of Kenny's mouth. Victoria locks Kelly in a side-ways backbreaker. Victoria slings Kelly by the hair. Victoria straight-jackets the arms of Kelly and then works on the back on Kelly. Kelly finally gets to her feet and flips Victoria over. Tag to Balls. Balls takes to fight to Kenny and connects with the Balls o' Fun. Kenny has Victoria run in, but Balls ducks and Kelly hits an inverted Victory Roll on Victoria. Balls grabs Kenny with an inside cradle for the win.
YOUR WINNERS: Balls Mahoney and Kelly Kelly
They promo the Shawn Michaels DVD. The one I want in my Christmas stocking is the World Class DVD. I was amazed to see the promo. I haven't seen Bill Mercer since the early '90's, when he was one of my professors at the University of North Texas. Bill, you look great. Hope you are still enjoying tennis. The DVD comes out on Tuesday. (Hint to the wife)
Shelton Benjamin is in the ring to talk to us about promises. Shelton tells us that if you wait on promises, you will be disappointed. Go and get what you want is his mindset. It's a great way of thinking about life. Shelton does make a few promises that we CAN count on. He promises us that he will raise the bar and be a success. Benjamin reminds us "Ain't no stopping me now!" Benjamin has the Resident Redneck, Jimmy Wang Yang, tonight.
Match Highlights:
Collar and Elbow. Shelton works on the arm, until an arm drag, by Jimmy, sends him flying. Knee shot by Shelton on Jimmy. Jimmy is sent to the ropes, but he hits a crucifix slide. Shelton hits a monster kick. Shelton lifts Jimmy up for a powerbomb but just tosses Jimmy across the ring, into the corner. Clothesline by Shelton. Shelton bends Jimmy backwards, working over the neck. Jimmy battles back with a back fist and several shots to the face. Shelton uses a back elbow to regain control. Jimmy is sent to the corner. Jimmy stuns Shelton and hits a jumping roundhouse kick. Jimmy goes to the top rope, but gets caught in a gutbuster on the way down. Shelton hits the Bulldog into a DDT (The Full Stop aka Benjamin Blaster).
YOUR WINNER: Shelton Benjamin
We take another look at Big Daddy V and Mark Henry. This is a replay of the opening segment. Matt tells Punk to make the choice, but Punk's already told us that he doesn't care who he battles.
Before our next match, we take a look at the card for the next PPV. Jeff Lewis is the next victim for Kevin Thorn. Thorn has totally abandoned his Goth look. He is in blood red tights with knee boots.
Match Hightlights:
Thorn drops Lewis with a running boot. Lewis gets a good kick in, but Thorn just plants him. Thorn hits an Avalanche Drop off the ropes. Thorn kicks Lewis. Lewis gets one good shot in, but Thorn nearly decapitates him with a clothesline. Thorn hits several Jake Roberts' Short-arm clotheslines. Thorn hits the Shock Treatment on Lewis and this is a done deal.
YOUR WINNER: Kevin Thorn
Big Daddy V, Matt Striker and Mark Henry are strolling to the ring. Punk will learn his fate, after this round of commercials. There's another promo for the 15th Anniversary show. My brother has already called to invite himself over to the house to watch the show. He has to bring the popcorn and sodas.
Big Daddy V and Matt Striker stroll to the ring. We still don't know who Punk will face. Mark Henry is next out for the battle. I'd like to see Mark, finally, get a run as a champion. The European title doesn't really count. He was given that title, he didn't win it. Matt has the stick. Matt says that he will toss a coin to decide who Punk faces. He doesn't have a coin, so he has to get one from the ref, Scott Armstrong. Heads...it's Big Daddy V. Tails, it's Mark Henry. The coin ends up....TAILS. Punk has to face Mark Henry.
Punk looks confident as he strolls to the ring. Big Daddy V and Matt Striker are still in the ring, as the bell rings.
Match Highlights:
Punk loosens up as the bell rings, again. Punk hits a big kick, but Henry shrugs it off. Punk ducks a charging Mark. Go behind by Punk. Mark turns it into a clothesline. Mark laughs at Punk. Punk breaks out the kicks, again. Punk jumps on Mark's back and locks in a sleeper. Mark crawls over the ropes. Punk won't let go, so Mark just backs him into the ringpost at a run. Big kick by Mark when the two get back in the ring. Mark levels Punk with a forearm to the back. Headbutt by Mark. Mark steps onto the chest of Punk. Mark uses his weight to destroy Punk. Punk breaks loose and opens up with all kinds of kicks to the face and head of Mark Henry. Mark uses a chest block to drop Punk. Huge slam by Mark. Mark locks in a Kabuki-esque neck grip into the traps of Punk. Mark hits an inverted crossface and then re-locks in the neck grip. The crowd rallies Punk, but the ECW Champ is hurting. Punk is whipped to the corner. Mark pounds on Punk in the corner. Punk is whipped to the opposite corner. Mark tries to hit the Freight Train on Punk, but Punk moves. Punk hits the Elevator Knee, but before he can do anything else, Big Daddy V enters the ring. Scott Armstrong calls for the bell.
YOUR WINNER (by DQ): C.M. Punk
Big Daddy V and Mark Henry attack Punk. Big Daddy V hits a Ghetto (Samoan) Drop on Punk. The pyros explode, and Kane rushes to the ring. He has a chair. Kane and Mark slam chairs a few times, before Mark Henry is sent to the floor. Kane then uses the chair to bash the back of Big Daddy V. The two behemoths bail to the floor as this edition of ECW comes to an end.
