ECW on Sci-Fi Results - August 28, 2008
Date Added: August 27, 2008
Story By: Steve Carrier
Welcome to this week's edition of ECW on Sci-Fi, which was originally taped prior to Monday Night RAW yesterday.

To open the show, ECW General Manager Theodore Long officially confirms RAW's video announcement of a third Scramble match at Unforgiven, as Mark Henry will defend his ECW Championship against four other Extremists, who will fight for their places in the match through the night.

Matt Hardy makes his way down to the ring as the first contest this evening is a qualifying match, versus John Morrison.

As the bell rings, Hardy and Morrison lock horns, trying their way around the ring for the advantange. Morrison gets the upper hand and goes to the ring apron. He leaps onto the top rope for a springboard but gets clotheslined in mid-air and topples to the outside, smacking his head against the mats. Hardy goes to the outside and rolls John back in the ring. Morrison hits a hard Russian leg sweep for a two count. He split-legs on the top rope and aims to crash down on Matt with his signature corkscrew moonsault, but Hardy rolls out of the way! Clothesline into the corner to Morrison, but he doesn't hook in the bulldog combination as Morrison sits down to avoid it, but gets a slingshot Powerbomb instead.

[Commercial Break]

Back from the first commercial break of the show, and Morrison has Matt Hardy in a chinlock, greatly wearing him down. The "Shaman of Sexy" pounds on Hardy with some hard shots and attempts a neckbreaker, but Matt twists out of it and attempts the Twist of Fate, but his opponent drops him with a clothesline. Hardy fights back and finally hits his clothesline and bulldog combination out of the corner for a two count. Morrison ducks out of Hardy's offense and jumps to the middle road for his springboard flying kick, but Hardy just catches him and goes for a Crucifix Powerbomb, but John slips out and goes for the kick again, successfully connecting square with Matt Hardy's face, and almost picking up the victory with a near fall. Hardy arm wrenches out of a manoevuer by the man formerly known as Johnny Nitro and lands the Twist of Fate in a split second. It's over. A good opener.

WINNER: MATT HARDY

We see an updated graphic showing the ECW Scramble match at Unforigven, it now includes Matt Hardy behind the champion, Mark Henry.

Mark Henry with Tony Atlas at his side as always, approaches Teddy Long in his office as he talks to Tiffany. He vents his frustration for having to defend the ECW Championship against four other men at Unforgiven.

[Commercial Break]

A recap airs of the John Cena vs. Batista match at SummerSlam, and highlights the two Batista Bombs that injured Cena's neck. We then cut to Mike Adamle on the stage at last night's RAW, announcing that Rey Mysterio would be taking his place in the World Heavyweight Championship Scramble at the upcoming pay-per-view.

The Miz is in the ring with his stupid hat. His opponent tonight is Mr. Quick, Evan Bourne, and this is a qualifying match for the Scramble. The two start off the match with a serious of quick pin attempts, followed by some nice arm drags. Bourne quickly hops to the advantage, grounding The Miz with an armbar, but he quickly fights out of it, and attempts the Mizard of Oz, unsuccessfully however, as Evan dodges the boot and hits a, I don't even know what to call it, a hurricanrana-come-monkey flip, it was shown at a bad angle. The offense switches again with The Miz grounding Bourne this time, but soon is forced to break the hold. The Miz sets himself up on the top rope and is on the receiving end of a huge knee right to the face. Bourne ascends the turnbuckles and goes for a Frankensteiner, but Mike shoots out of it leaving Bourne to crash onto nothing but the top rope in a seated position. The bounce throws him off and he just lands upright, that could have gone very wrong. The Miz capitalises with the neckbreaker, dumping Evan on his neck for the victory. The Miz now joins Mark Henry and Matt Hardy in the ECW Scramble at Unforgiven.

WINNER: THE MIZ

We see a split-screen of Tommy Dreamer on the right, and Chavo Guerrero accompanied by Bam Neely on the left. The two will face off next in another Scramble qualifier.

[Commercial Break]

The two lock horns as the bell sounds, with Chavo Guerrero soon getting the upper hand thanks to a vicious combination of strikes. He locks Tommy Dreamer in a side headlock, then changes his position into an abdominal stretch. Dreamer gets in some shots of his own, countering out of the submission hold. Guerrero is hung up in the tree of woe and gets clocked by the trademark dropkick of Dreamer. He picks Chavo up for the Dreamer Driver, but Bam Neely hops up onto the apron. Distracted by Neely, Tommy drops Chavo. Guerrero pushes his opponent into Bam, who flies off the apron, and then dives over the top rope with Dreamer's head, crushing his throat against the top rope. Dreamer falls to the mat and Chavo goes to the high rent district for the Frog Splash, nailing it and obtaining the win. A total throw-away three minute match.

WINNER: CHAVO GUERRERO

Another promo airs for the SmackDown Your Vote! campaign, with Josh Matthews and Candice Michelle joined by Batista.

[Commercial Break]

We return from the break with Matt Striker and Todd Grisham running down the rules for the Scramble matches at Unforgiven, particularly the ECW Championship bout, of which the final participant will be confirmed next.

Finlay makes him way down to the ring, in stride with his "son", Hornswoggle. It looks like Mike Knox has accepted the challenge that was laid down to him on last week's show, and the two will now collide. A collar and elbow tie-up opens tonight's main event, back and forth, with the action quickly spilling to the outside. Finlay "takes" a big boot that the cameras unfortunately evidenced to have missed by about two feet. The Extremists get back into the ring as we cut to the final commercial break of the show.

[Commercial Break]

Back, we are greeted with a promo for the Scramble matches at Unforgiven, but it's the one they used for RAW last night, advertising RAW and SmackDown's, but not ECW's.

Returning to the main event, Finlay works on the left arm of Mike Knox, who breaks out of the hold and rolls under the middle rope. He walks towards Hornswoggle with obvious intent, but Finlay charges, only to be caught by a hard Powerslam on the outside.

I do apologise, my Sky Box, a digital television provider, turned itself off in the middle of the bout.

With the referee at the helm of Hornswoggle, Finlay decks Knox with the shillelagh to pick up the victory and secure the final vacancy in the Scramble match for the ECW Championship at Unforgiven, which is now just under two weeks away. He joins, of course, Mark Henry, Matt Hardy, The Miz and Chavo Guerrero.
