RFI: ECW CarnageStory By: John Sivewright April 18, 2003 ECW Thursday Night Carnage Thursday April 17th ECW Arena, Phillidelphia PA Written by: Gary Freeland and Chris Bacon Commentator: Joey Styles The show opens with Joey Styles standing in the middle of the ring, in front of a sold-out crowd. Styles, “Welcome everyone to ECW Thursday Night Carnage!!! At this time, I would like to welcome to the ring the newly crowned ECW World Heavyweight Champion, Rob Van Dam!!” A chorus of boos rains down upon the new ECW Champion and Network Head, Cyrus as "Walk" by Pantera hits. Van Dam enters the ring and does his customary thumb taunt as Cyrus grabs the mic off of Styles and shoves him out of the ring. Cyrus, “Get out of the way Joey...Your new ECW World Heavyweight Champion, ‘Mr. Network’ Rob Van Dam!!!” Van Dam takes the mic, “It is great to be back in Philadelphia!” A “You Sold Out!!” chant runs rampant through the crowd. Cyrus is irate, “Show some respect for the greatest ECW champion of all time!!!” RVD, “It’s alright Cyrus, they are not used being in the presence of greatness. You see, I am only the fifth man in history to win ECW’s Triple Crown. I held the ECW Television Title for nearly 2 years. Hell, up in Stamford, I unified the Intercontinental, European, and Hardcore Titles. And now I have become the greatest ECW champion of all time!!! Honestly, just look at me. Is there anyone who could be as cool as RVD?? I stayed cool, through all the shit I got through my career. When ECW was in ruin a couple of years ago, I was the only person keeping this hellhole open. I was the only one putting people in those seats. And what did I get for my troubles?? Not one damn title shot! I got jackshit! And do you know why? Paul Heyman knew there was not one person in this whole f*ckin’ company that can even come close to the talent that I possess. He knew that no one could beat me. But you ask why wouldn’t he want his best talent holding his company’s most prized possession? There is just one reason that I can think of, jealousy. I did not and will never kiss Paul Heyman’s ass and that just pissed him off to no end. He was jealous that I had enough dignity for myself to try to win the title on my own. I’m not like Tommy Dreamer, or Vic Grimes, or the Sandman, or Sabu. But I have learned that winning things on your own here in ECW are impossible and that’s why I gained the services of Cyrus and the Network. And now look where I am. I am the greatest ECW Heavyweight Champion of all time and not a damn soul can beat ‘Mr. Network’ Rob…Van…Dam!” Just as the champ finishes, the ECW theme hits and out comes Paul Heyman with bodyguard Vic Grimes. Heyman enters the ring and swipes the mic away from RVD, who looks on confused. Heyman, “I came out here because I have a few things to say. The first thing is to you Rob Van Dam. I want to…apologize.” This statement confuses the crowd. Heyman, “I want to apologize for accusing you of attacking me.” Van Dam, “Well it takes…” Heyman cuts the champ off, “Well that’s enough pleasantries, Cyrus where the hell is your buddy Terry Funk?” Cyrus, “I don’t know what you talking about Paul, Funk ain’t with us. He acted on his own. Trust me. Oh, by the way, good luck with that crazy bastard.” Cyrus and Van Dam laugh insincerely. RVD, “Yea, maybe you can go backstage and find him and he could apologize for beating your ass a few weeks ago.” RVD laughs but gets speared by Grimes for his comments! Grimes is working over the champ as Cyrus tries to separate the two. Heyman nails Cyrus with a right hand and sends Cyrus sprawling to the outside! Grimes picks up ‘Mr. Network’ and nails him with a sickening Snap Powerbomb. Heyman orders Grimes to the top, and Grimes lands a picture-perfect moonsault!!! “Holy Shit!! Holy Shit!! Holy Shit!!” Heyman and Grimes leave the champion a battered mess in the middle of the ring as Carnage goes to its first commercial break. **Commercial Break** Styles, “What a way to start Carnage!! That son of a bitch Van Dam got what he deserved!! A good ass kicking...well in any case our first match is about to begin. And it'll be a battle, that will no doubt have an effect on the Extreme Cruiserweight Championship, and new champion The Amazing Red.” Cruiserweight Match Little Guido w/ Tracey Smothers VS Low Ki Low Ki waits patiently in the ring as Little Guido and Tracey Smothers makes their way to the ring. Low Ki does not wait any longer and lands a Baseball Slide on both Guido and Smothers. Guido sprawls up the aisle and Ki follows. Ki lands a kick to the midsection. Smothers tries to attack him from behind but gets caught with a sickening Sidekick to the face. Low Ki turns around and is leveled by a Short Clothesline by Guido. Guido lands a couple of boots and then picks up Low Ki. Guido irish whips Low Ki into the steps with a sickening thud, to boos from the crowd. He then picks up Low Ki and rolls him into the ring. Styles, "Guido starting off pretty strongly here. Low Ki got caught coming out oft he blocks." Guido springboards and lands the Sicilian Slice on Ki! One…Two…near fall for Guido. Low Ki is forced into the corner. Guido lands a couple of stiff knees into the stomach of Ki. Irish whip by Guido. Guido tries to follow up the irish whip but is met with boot to the face from Ki. Low Ki explodes out of the corner and nails Guido in the face with a Front Dropkick. Styles, "Low Ki on FIRE! What a Dropkick!" Guido is sent to the mat and Low Ki follows up with a swift kick to the back. Guido crawls to the corner and pulls himself up. Ki lands a couple of boots to the midsection and then a stiff kick to the head. Guido staggers out of the corner and is met with another boot. Low Ki lands an intense Brainbuster, which floors Guido! Low Ki scales the ropes but a recovered Tracy Smothers pushes him off and to the floor once reaching the top rope. Styles, "Aw come on now! Smothers from the outside!" Smothers walks around and rolls Low Ki back into the ring. Smothers grabs a chair from the outside and slides it into the ring while distracting the referee. Guido pulls himself up and stalks Low Ki with the chair. Low Ki gets up and is obliterated with a chair shot over the head. Smothers goes back to the floor as Guido makes the cover. One…Two…Thr…shoulder up! Guido is infuriated and puts Low Ki into a Bodyscissors, trying to regain his breath slightly. Guido brings his forearm across the face of Low Ki several times while continuing with the Bodyscissors. Guido now locks Low Ki in a variation of the Dragon Sleeper while holding the Bodyscissors. Low Ki screams in pain but does not give in, before pulling himself over to the ropes and eventually makes it to them, breaking the hold. Guido picks up Low Ki and hits a Double Underhook Powerbomb. Guido goes for a Half Crab, but Low Ki Monkey Flips Guido over. Ki gets to his feet and Guido charges. Guido goes for the arm trying to lock in the Fujiwara Armbar, but Ki reverses and locks in the Dragon Clutch! Guido quickly makes it to the ropes before Low Ki could fully cinch in the maneuver. That only seemed to anger Low Ki as he landed a nasty kick to the stomach. Low Ki then lands the Hanging Dragon! One…Two…Thr…kickout by Guido! Styles, "Guido is in trouble here...Low Ki looks to be setting him up..." Low Ki Snapmares over Guido and lands a Muta elbow. Low Ki again locks in the Dragon Clutch and Guido has no choice but to tapout! Winner via submission: Low Ki at 7:32 The camera cuts to the Network locker room where Rob Van Dam and Cyrus are arguing about the events that took place earlier. RVD, “Where the f*ck were the rest of the Network when I needed them?? I just got my ass handed to me on a cheap attack by that fat bastard and they were nowhere to be found!! That’s why I joined the Network in the first place Cyrus! You aren’t doin’ your job!” Cyrus, “Just calm down champ, how about I have Rhino take on Vic Grimes later on tonight??” RVD, “No that’s okay, I want that bastard myself. Yea, that’s right. ‘Mr. Network’ Rob Van Dam takes out Vic Grimes tonight on national television. Yea, that’s what I want.” Cyrus, “Are you sure you want to do that? You know are in no condition to fight tonight. And you only won the title four days ago. Rob, ju...” RVD, “Dammit, just get it done!! That’s what I pay you for! So go make my match!!!” RVD storms out of the locker room as Cyrus is left alone with a concerned look on his face. Styles, “All is not well in the Network camp! And I can’t say that I am upset about that!! But, well it looks like we've got Grimes versus Van Dam later on for the World Title. Van Dam making his first ECW World Heavyweight Title defense EVER here tonight...wait...I am being told that there is something going on in backstage.” The camera cuts to Chris Candido’s locker room where he and Tammy are in a heated argument. Candido, “Where the hell were you at when I needed you in my match Sunday?” Tammy, “Hun, I wasn’t allowed at ringside remember?” Candido, “Excuses, excuses. That’s all I am hearing now a days. I had the match won and it was taken away from me! If you were there my victory would have been a lock. All you think you are here for is a free ride huh?” Tammy at the brink of tears, “Uh..ummm…no hun…I love you. I want to help you in everyway I can.” Candido, “Well you wanna help huh? Well you can help by stayin’ back here while I go to the ring and kick Spike Dudley’s ass. Oh yeah, there is one thing that your good at, why don’t get ready cause when I come back I’m gonna need a good piece of ass.” Tammy breaks down and starts to cry as Candido stomps out of the room and heads for the ring. Singles Match Chris Candido VS Spike Dudley "Highway To Hell" is playing in the background as Spike Dudley stands in the middle of the ring, ready to fight. AC/DC’s “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap” hits the PA system and one angry Chris Candido sprints to the ring. Styles, "That Chris Candido is a nasty piece of work huh? What did Tammy do to deserve that treatment?" Spike lands a couple of right hands but Candido lands a low blow kick blatantly in front of the referee. As the referee goes to warn him about it, Candido just flips him off before pulling Spike up as if he's nothing. Candido kicks Spike in the face and that knocks Spike on his back. Candido pounces on top of Spike and lands a furry of right hands. Candido picks up Spike and drops him right on the back of his head with a German Suplex. “Holy Shit! Holy Shit! Holy Shit!” Styles, "We may need the medics out here...Spike Dudley is a tough bastard, but Can...Candido has snapped!" Candido pulls Spike up by the hair, and lands a Cradle DDT reminiscent of Candido's enemy The Franchise. Candido goes to the outside and searches under the ring. He finds a table and slides it into the ring. Styles, "Oh come on now this isn't right. We don't need this!" Spike is out cold in the middle of the ring while Candido sets up the table. Candido drags Spike over to the corner and sets him up on the top rope. Candido flips and lands the Blonde Bombshell on Spike through the table!!! “Holy Shit! Holy Shit! Holy Shit!” Candido makes the cover...One...two...three and the match is over. Winner via pinfall: Chris Candido in 2:17 EMT’s rush out to check out on Spike Dudley as Candido calmly walks out of the ring with a huge smile on his face. Styles, "Chris Candido is a dangerous man my friends...the ECW had better watch this man very closely. And look at that, no remorse for the beating he just gave poor Spike Dudley." Dudley is loaded onto a stretcher and wheeled up the aisle as we go to a commercial break. **Commercial Break** ECW World Heavyweight Championship Match Rob Van Dam(c) VS Vic Grimes w/Paul Heyman The ECW Theme by Harry and The Slashtones plays as the challenger Vic Grimes walks down the aisle, with ECW owner Paul Heyman walking behind him. The big man enters the ring, as a 'Paul E' chant starts up for Heyman. Ring announcer Bob Ortiz gets into the ring also, as Grimes raises his arms in the air. Ortiz, "This contest, is for the ECW WORLD..HEAVYWEIGHT..CHAMPIONSHIP!!!" "Walk" by Pantera hits, and the crowd erupt into a mixture of cheers and boos, as the new ECW World Champion makes his way out again, ready for action rather than talking this time. Van Dam slides in and spins around, arms in the air as Ortiz walks into the middle of the ring. Ortiz, "Introducing first, the challenger this evening. Accompanied this evening, by the man behind the violence, the owner of ECW, Paul Heyman. From Miami Florida, the bodyguard to the boss...VIC...GRIMES!" The crowd give Grimes some resectful applause. Ortiz, "And, the opponent. Representing The Network. From, Battle Creek, Michigan...the reigning ECW WORLD..HEAVYWEIGHT..CHAMPION! The Whole F'N Show...ROB.." Suddenly, RVD walks over, and whispers something to Ortiz. Ortiz, "I stand corrected. Introducing 'MR NETWORK' ROB..VAN..DAM!" Van Dam does the double thumb taunt along with his introduction before turning to Grimes, an unusually angry look on his face. Van Dam gets into a martial arts style stance, only to be knocked down with a right hand by Grimes. Grimes then starts to punch down on Van Dam's head, until the World Champion rolls out of the ring in retreat. Styles, "Van Dam will not have it easy here tonight...Grimes is an intimidating presence at around about 400 pounds." Van Dam walks around ringside a little dazed, before sliding back in to be met with hard stomps from Grimes. Grimes pulls RVD up to his feet and whips him to the ropes, Van Dam rolls underneath a Clothesline attempt though and takes Grimes down with a Legsweep for a cover...one...two..Grimes POWERS off the cover launching RVD into the air. Van Dam then climbs up to the top rope, and hits a Flying Superkick, which only staggers Grimes. RVD runs off the ropes and hits a Clothesline, Grimes stays on his feet so Van Dam runs off the ropes again. This time though, Grimes smashes Van Dam with a Clothesline of his own, and RVD scurries to the outside. Styles, "I don't think Rob can believe how Grimes keeps staying up from all this offense." Van Dam takes his time, composing himself on the outside before rolling into the ring again. The two men lock up in the middle of the ring, and Grimes shoves him away, but Van Dam steadies himself, and starts to hit hard kicks to the gut of Grimes. Van Dam then hits a Leaping Spinkick, followed by a second, and then an Enziguri Kick to the back of the head, finally knocking Grimes down. Van Dam then hits a Standing Moonsault for a cover...one...two...two again. Van Dam goes for a cover...one...two...only two. RVD fires away with forearms at Grimes, but Grimes counters and whips Van Dam to the corner. RVD leaps up to the middle turnbuckle, but before he can spring back off, Grimes hits a shot to the back. Grimes then reaches underneath Van Dam on the middle rope, and brings him off the middle rope with a SITOUT POWERBOMB!!! Styles, "This could be it! Van Dam gets up holding his gut, and walks straight into a Clothesline from Grimes! Paul Heyman then slides in a steel chair, which Grimes picks up. Funk and Van Dam exchange words in the middle of the ring, and Funk grabs a hold of Van Dam's title belt, only for Van Dam to pull it back. Styles, "Would you listen to these fans! They want these two ECW legends to go at it right here!" Suddenly, "Man In The Box" by Alice in Chains hits, and out walks Tommy Dreamer, weilding a singapore cane! Funk looks on in shock, as does RVD as Dreamer walks slowly with a purpose down the aisle, pointing at Funk as he does so. Funk and RVD stand tall, until Dreamer slides in, and RVD and Funk both bail. Styles, "Aw, what a couple of pussies! Two on one, and they couldn't find the balls between them to fight Dreamer!" Minister, "Todd, what you see before you are three of the most evil, sadistic and talented superstars in the world of wrestling. Steven Richards. 'The Fallen Angel' Christopher Daniels. And Michael Whipwreck. The latter of the three an ECW Triple Crown winner. Steven Richards, a former ECW World Heavyweight Champion. And Christopher...the star of the future, the future of Extreme Championship Wrestling. This is more than just 'quite an alliance.' For the so called heroes of ECW, we are their worst nightmare! We are the 'anti-heroes' or ECW...but the scariest thing about us...is that we are not alone. There is more to the Unholy Alliance than just us four men. Our true guiding light, is still to be unveiled...but soon, soon he will be. And when he is..." The Minister grabs his cane, and points it down at a table in front of him, before shooting out a fireball from it, engulfing the table in flames, lighting up the room and revealing the laughing Unholy Alliance stood around the flames. Gordon leaves while he still can, leaving the four laughing away crazily. Styles, "That is one crazy trio The Sinister Minister has there. And well, they are in action next. The trio team up for the first time, to take on the Spanish trio of the Maximo Brothers and Super Crazy. It promises to be an awesome match here, 6 fantastic atheletes all in that one ring." Eventually the 3 on 2 numbers game catches up with The Dudleyz, and despite their best efforts The Unholy Alliance begin to beat down the ECW Tag Champions. Steven winds up, and catches D-Von with the Stevie Kick as Daniels and Whipwreck pound on Buh Buh. Suddenly, out runs Lance Storm, and the crowd rises to their feet. Officials and wrestlers are crowded around the fight, and we can't see what's going on, until the fight is pulled apart, and we see that it was 'The Franchise' Shane Douglas and Chris Candido fighting. Candido tries to pull away from the officials, as Douglas just walks away, smiling.
