New UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks is headed under the knife, as he told a Los Angeles radio station Wednesday that he needs surgery on his injured bicep. Immediately following his win over Robbie Lawler at UFC 171, Hendricks stated he suffered an elbow injury.
Ariel Helwani is reporting that Hendricks will have surgery on Monday and need four weeks of recovery before he can begin rehab. That will be followed up by “Bigg Rigg” working his way back into shape, meaning he is likely out for several months. Helwani also said the injury to the bicep happened before the fight and almost forced him to pull out. He also suffered a shin injury vs. Lawler.
