This Diva was born May 26, 1979 under her actual in-ring name of Ashley Maire Massaro. The now 37-year-old hails from New York city and started off her career as a model. She also completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Communications with a minor in Business from the State University of New York.
She was crowned Miss Hawaiian Tropic and its Canadian version. She has appeared as a swimsuit model in Stuff and Maxim magazines as well as gracing the pages of Playboy. She received her wrestling training from the best in the business: Ricky Steamboat, Trish Stratus and Dave Finlay.
She was discovered during a 2005 Raw Diva search, winning the tense competition and securing a one-year contract with the WWE.
She debuted on Raw once week later but immediately made enemies from the other jealous Divas. She was attacked by Torrie Wilson, Victoria and Candice Michelle. This set the stage for a feud between the Divas with Massaro on the losing end in their initial encounters.
Massaro eventually bounced back with a victory over the pack by bringing in her former trainer and now partner Trish Stratus. The rivalry continued for quite some time with Victoria, Michelle and Wilson calling themselves “The Vince Devils”. The feud peaked when Straus and Massaro defeated the Vince Devils and humiliated them in a Bra and Panties match at the “WWE Homecoming: Pay-Per-View event.
Massaro participated in a tournament to determine the WWE Women’s Championship but was ultimately defeated by long time rival Victoria. Massaro did get revenge by defeating her old foes in a Bra and Panties Gauntlet match at the “New Years Revolution” Pay-Per-View event.
In 2006, Massaro started a rivalry with Mickie James and engaged in a series of see-saw battles against her. Massaro regrettably fractured her left tibia and fibula in a battle royal and had to depart to undergo corrective surgery for a period. She did return to on-screen involvement, but no in-ring action.
Once healed, Massaro returned to SmackDown! in June of 2006 and teamed with Jillian Hall. They started to feud with Michelle McCool and Kristal Marshall. Massaro and Hall were successful in the encounters and Massaro later won yet another Bra and Panties encounter against McCool, Hall and Marshall.
She then affiliated herself with the tag team of Bryan Kendrick and Paul London as their valet. She became romantically involved with London behind the scenes having broken up with her previous beau, Matt Hardy. She engaged in some intergender tag matches with the boys mostly to losing efforts, although she did win some solo matches during this period against the likes of former partner Hall and Kristal.
She revealed herself in a Playboy magazine in a 2007 cover shot and feuded with a jealous Jillian Hall. Also jealous was the WWE Women’s Champion Melina and after a series of catfights and tag matches, the two faced each other in a lumberjill match, but Massaro lost.
She continued to act as valet for London and Kendrick and feuded with Hall. She was (kayfabe) fired by Vince McMahon for spilling coffee on him. In reality, she needed time off as she was chosen to be a contestant on the popular reality show Survivor in its 15th season.
Massaro did not win Survivor (she was eliminated in the second episode) and showed up back up in the WWE in 2008 as part of the Raw brand. A storyline was developed where Massaro tried to convince fellow Diva Maria Kanelis to pose for Playboy magazine. Maria was involved in an on-screen relationship with Santino Marella who strongly objected to this.
Massaro appeared with Maria on a vignette filmed at the Playboy mansion and this led to a mixed gender six person tag match. One team was Massaro, Maria and Jerry “The King” Lawler who was irritated by Marella’s protestations. They faced Marella, Melina and Beth Phoenix in which Massaro’s team lost.
From there on in, Massaro went on a losing streak, teaming with Maria. Massaro was released from the WWE in 2008. She appeared in some films, music videos and TV shows thereafter.
In late 2016, Massaro made a claim against the WWE that she was sexually assaulted during the annual “Tribute to the Troops” show the WWE prides itself on. She also informed that the WWE told her to bury the issue and not speak publicly about it. No resolution has been made to date.
Massaro has succeeded in modeling, TV shows and in the squared circle. No matter what endeavors this Diva engages in, she is destined to conquer. While retired from wrestling, her time in the squared circle will not be easily forgotten.
