New Japan Pro-Wrestling will kick off their annual G1 Climax tournament in a major way this year, by running the opening night in the United States for the very first time.
A stacked event to get things started will invade the American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX on Saturday, July 6th and tickets officially go on-sale to the general public this afternoon at 1:00 PM ET. The arena has a capacity of 20,000 seats so it will be the largest New Japan event in North America. WWE packed the venue with more than 16,000 people for their 2017 Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view.
The international expansion doesn’t stop with the G1 Climax tournament, as New Japan will be running a major event called “NJPW Royal Quest” at the Copper Box Arena in London, England on Saturday, August 31st.
So far confirmed for the show, which is reported to be a major, all-hands-on-deck event and not a co-produced event with a local promotion like their Revolution Pro events or tours with Ring of Honor, is Kazuchika Okada, Hiroshi Tanahashi, IWGP Intercontinental Champion Tetsuya Naito, and NEVER Openweight Champion Will Ospreay. Dave Meltzer confirmed on Wrestling Observer Radio this morning that Kota Ibushi will also be at the event.
