The air changes in Chicago this time of year. Leaves change, the wind gets a little more brisk, and the independent wrestling scene starts to take off. All of this, after the dust has settled after ALL IN, the biggest Independent Wrestling show in history, taking place in Chicago and delivering beyond what many people even imagined. How does Chicago respond?
In the middle of all of it is AAW Pro, an independent wrestling company that started in 2004, and was later taken over by Jim Lynam, Danny Daniels, and a few others. AAW is no longer a secret in Chicago, as they have a Twitch channel and recently debuted on Highspots.com, in addition to having the who’s who of talent come through their roster. You may have heard of guys like Seth Rollins, Ruby Riott, Kevin Owens, & Ciampa, who are all AAW alums; and then there are guys who still are a major part of the company that are taking the world by storm. Guys like Sami Callihan, Pentagon Jr, Fenix, MJF, Moose…the list goes on. In short….AAW is legit.
AAW Pro, along with Starrcast, was the true kick off to ALL IN weekend last month, and they look to continue that momentum with the Jim Lynam Memorial Tournament on September 28th & 29th in Chicago. Taking a look at the card, it looks like AAW is answering the call with a BANG.
It’s no secret that many of us here at ProWrestling.com attend shows there, which having the promotion here in our backyard has given us the opportunity to see killer matches, and this card looks to be no different, but the feel of the show to honor the fallen friend of AAW, Jim Lynam, gives this show special meaning. Last year it was Michael Elgin who took home the crown, and this year, 16 men in 8 matches look to compete in the tournament to prove who is best and be thrust into stardom in Chicago. Check out the breakdown below of each match, predictions, and amazing video. Be sure to tune in after the shows for the complete breakdown on ProWrestling.com, and if you’re at the shows (which if you’re in Chicagoland, you should be), come say hi.
The Jim Lynam Memorial Tournament this Friday and Saturday at the Logan Square Auditorium in Chicago.

Round 1 Match: RICH SWANN vs. TREVOR LEE
Swann is back in the indies and has been signed to IMPACT Wrestling, doing some incredible things. Swann was an AAW regular before leaving for WWE, but things have changed since he left. In that time, Trevor Lee has made some friends in David Starr, Eddie Kingston, & Jeff Cobb (known as WRSTLING), and managed to secure the AAW Heritage Championship. I’d look to have Lee’s WRSTILNG brothers jump in the mix on this one to secure him the victory.
Prediction: Trevor Lee
Round 1 Match: SAMMY GUEVARA vs. TREY MIGUEL
This is one of the harder ones to pick. Trey has been holding his own in AAW, making himself a regular in Chicago, and even recently did a tour of the UK, won himself a championship along the way, and made his debut on IMPACT Wrestling. Guevara has been rehabbing an injury, and made his return recently, in impressive fashion. I’d look for an upset here, and have Guevara steal one from Trey to move into the second round.
Prediction: Sammy Guevara
Round 1 Match: DJZ vs. ACE ROMERO
I guess it wouldn’t be a true tournament if the matches were easy to predict. Both men here are on the rise, and looking to make their names known, but for different reasons. Ace Romero is new to AAW, and recently POUNCED his way into homes, making himself more well known. In AAW he’s been in a perpetual feud with MJF, and he would be looking to use this tournament to break him out of that and onto bigger and better things. DJZ on the other hand came back from a series of injuries and is looking to show that he’s only getting started in the wrestling business. Armed with a kick ass entrance, the IMPACT Wrestling and AAW Pro veteran is my pick to win this one.
Round 1 Match: MYRON REED vs. AR FOX
These two have mixed it up in the past and the results was nothing short of incredible. Since then, they have teamed up to be known as team Fiyah Fox, and have been hot in the tag division of AAW.
Last year, Myron Reed used the tournament to let everyone know he is one to watch. This year, he may be the dark horse underdog to win it all. I’m picking him to take the win here.
Prediction: Myron Reed
Round 1 Match: JIMMY JACOBS vs. DARBY ALLIN
Darby Allin is becoming a big name in the indie world, and recently made his debut in AAW and everyone was floored at what they witnessed. Unfortunately for Allin, he doesn’t have an AAW Champion monster known as Brody King in his corner. Look for King to get involved to cost Darby the matchup.
Prediction: Jimmy Jacobs
Round 1 Match: ACH vs. MJF
ACH has had his problems with several people in AAW, recently losing both his AAW Heavyweight Championship to Brody King last month, and his former friend Eddie Kingston to the dark side that is WRSTLING. I’d look to have him continue his string of problems against MJF, who was recently at ALL IN, and is better than you…and you know it.
Round 1 Match: REY FENIX vs. SHANE STRICKLAND
The real winners here are the fans. I’m calling on this one to steal the show. Both men are special as soon as they walk out to the ring, and they will show everyone why AAW is special in the ring. This one is a toss up, but if I have to pick, I’d go Shane Strickland….but only because I’m hoping we can hear his music twice.
Prediction: Shane Strickland
Round 1 Match: MOOSE vs. SAMI CALLIHAN
This one is sure to make it into the crowd as Sami caused a ruckus last time that nearly got him kicked out of the arena….but don’t think that will stop him from doing it again. Moose is an impressive specimen, but AAW is truly the house of Sami Callihan…and it might be his time to reclaim it.
Prediction: Sami Callihan
This show is clearly one that is hard to predict, especially with the news that all 16 competitors will see action on night 2. Agree with the picks? Disagree? Let us know in the comments below, or on Twitter @pw_dotcom or @dougEwrestling!
Whether they win or lose on Night 1, all 16 competitors in the Jim Lynam Memorial Tournament will see action on Night 2.
