As noted, WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar, who is nearing a historic title reign in WWE, is not expected to defend the Universal Title next until WWE SummerSlam. Lesnar will officially surpass CM Punk’s record 435-day title reign next Tuesday, June 12th, just five days before WWE Money in the Bank.
There are two pay-per-view events scheduled before SummerSlam, with Money in the Bank taking place this month and WWE Extreme Rules taking place next month. The Beast is currently not expected to compete at either event.
According to Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated’s Extra Mustard, Brock Lesnar is expected to drop the Universal Title by the time SummerSlam is over.
“According to sources close to WWE, Lesnar is widely expected to drop the belt, at the latest, by SummerSlam”, reports Barrasso. “Because Lesnar’s new contract pays him by the fight, dropping the belt could signal the end of his time in WWE.”
As for Lesnar’s opponent at the event this year, while nothing has been confirmed, it is expected that Lesnar will once again be defending the title against Roman Reigns. We did note earlier this week, however, via Cageside Seats, that one of the rumored frontrunners to be challenging Lesnar for the title at SummerSlam is not The Big Dog Roman Reigns, but instead his Sheild brethren and current WWE Intercontinental Champion Seth Rollins.
WWE SummerSlam takes place on August 19th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
