Batista Comments on Director James Gunn’s Return to Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

Batista has finally commented on Director James Gunn’s return to Marvel Studio’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Gunn was fired by Marvel in July of 2018 after several Tweets concerning pedophilia, rape and incest were discovered from nearly 10 years prior.

The Guardians cast, including Batista, came out in support of Gunn at the time but Disney, Marvel’s parent studio, stood its ground. However the announcement of Gunn’s return came in March of 2019 and to say that Batista is happy about the decision is an understatement.

“I am beyond words stoked. The day it was announced that he was re-hired, I wasn’t able to celebrate publicly for certain reasons. Eventually I will have some type of public celebration and not to be smug and rub it in people’s faces, but just to know that I’m very excited. Because I think people know how hard I fought for and how upset I was over the deacon that he was fired. So you can imagine how excited I am that he’s officially back.”

Marvel fans are undoubtedly relieved that the controversy has come to an end. The first GOTG film was a smash success for the company and the follow-up was extremely popular as well. Much of that success was credited to Gunn’s vision for both films and now that he’s back at the helm, Guardians Volume 3 will move on as planned.

Gunn will also direct Warner Brothers’ upcoming Suicide Squad 2, putting him in the center of the DC Comics versus Marvel Comics rivalry.

Batista is expected to return to GOTG in his breakout role as Drax the Destroyer. But first The Animal will face his mentor and former Evolution teammate Triple H at WrestleMania 35 on April 7.
