Today officially, the Beast, Brock Lesnar has surpassed CM Punk’s historic WWE title run, and has become the longest reigning World Champion of the modern era.

Lesnar is now the longest reigning champion since Hulk Hogan’s 1500-day reign between January 1984 and February 1988. Previously, the modern record was set by CM Punk who held the WWE title for 434 days between November 2011 and January 2013 and made 141 defences of it during that time.

The record break has caused a few fans to complain, with many not feeling Lesnar’s run as champion is worthy of beating Punk’s, considering that Lesnar has only defended the Universal Championship 10 times during his lengthy run. Lesnar’s reign as champion has been ongoing from WrestleMania 33 where he defeated Goldberg.
