Chris Jericho Reveals He Held A Talent Meeting To Discuss The Lack Of Tag Team Rules In AEW

AEW World Champion, Chris Jericho recently revealed that he held a talent meeting with the locker room to discuss the lack of tag team rules in matches.

When speaking on the KeepinIt100 podcast with Konnan, Jericho addressed one of AEW’s biggest issues. Fans complained about the fact many tag team matches weren’t enforcing actual tags or any rules at all, and clearly Jericho felt the same way.

“The lack of just, normal tag team wrestling psychology drove me nuts. To the point where that was one of the big knocks against our company in about week three or four. They started making excuses for the Lucha Brothers because I’ll be honest, they’re lazy. Tagging in and out, they just walk in and out whenever they want and do whatever they want.

They would make up excuses where they would say “oh, it’s Lucha Libre style.” Huh, I worked in Mexico for two years and guess how you make a tag in a Lucha Libre match, you stand in the corner and wait for someone to touch you, that’s Lucha Libre rules. I called a meeting with the whole crew and said: “you’re burying the refs if you don’t have any rules you don’t have any heat and it’s killing our show.” The honeymoon period is over and people are watching us and getting confused by the lack of rules.”

While Jericho wasn’t impressed with how it was working, he was quick to praise the Lucha Brothers as talents, and for how they listened. He noted how it isn’t just tag team issues that he has taught people about, mentioning how the company is learning together, as one.

“Fenix and Penta are amazing, they blow my mind every week. Once we had a couple of talks with them, guess what they started doing? Tagging. Maybe it was a habit or maybe nobody told them. You have a whole locker room of guys who have just worked indies their whole career, maybe they don’t know little things. I have told guys to change their gear, they come back with new gear and say “I can’t believe how much better this is.” Once we told the guys to concentrate more on tagging in and out, they’ve been doing it, especially the Lucha Brothers. Everyone is learning together in this company.”
