Chris Jericho recently spoke with With Spandex about his cover of The Kinks’ “Father Christmas.” Proceeds from the single will be donated to Juvenile Diabetes Research.
During the interview, Jericho spoke about the return of CM Punk to the WWE. Jericho felt that it was good that Punk was back in the business, comparing it to the Motley Crue reunion, but was underwhelmed with the response.
“”We knew there would be a Mötley Crüe reunion and we knew CM Punk would come back to wrestling. It was just a matter of time,” the AEW Champion said. “I think he came back with more of a sigh than a scream.”
Jericho didn’t quite understand why Punk returned on WWE Backstage. “It seems kinda funny that he came back on a show that drew 150,000 viewers where it could have been 5 million viewers.” Punk has been clear that he works for Fox Sports, and not WWE, but Jericho was still positive about Punk’s return saying that if WWE Backstage is “part of the process to slowly wean him into the wrestling business, then good.”
Jericho continued to bemoan the nature of Punk’s return, saying “I just think it was not as big as it could have been or should have been. He’s back for the first time in five years and no one really cares.”
“Le Champion” is certain that Punk’s return will lead to more. When asked about AEW’s inability to sign Punk, Jericho made it clear that Punk would’ve been more of a want than a need. “Could we have used him? Yes. Does it hurt us to not have him? No, not at all.”
