Impact Wrestling has a new home.
Anthem Sports & Entertainment has finalized a deal to acquire a controlling interesting in HDNet LLC, the parent network of both AXS TV and HDNet Movies, confirming reports from earlier this summer.
The new arrangement will see Mark Cuban and AEG Global Partnerships stay on as “equity partners” working with Anthem’s own sales team. Steve Harvey Global has also been added to Anthem’s board of directors to work on new content as well as advertising for the network’s existing content.
Of course, that means Anthem’s long-running Impact Wrestling series will move from the Pursuit Channel, where it has been since January, to the much larger AXS TV channel.
Along with putting Impact in more homes every week, it will also put them on a network where viewers are used to watching professional wrestling, as AXS TV is currently home to both New Japan Pro-Wrestling and WOW: Women of Wrestling.
According to PWInsider.com, Anthem has no plans to discontinue their partnerships with either NJPW or WOW moving forward, even with Impact content coming to the channel. New Japan currently airs a new episode on Saturday nights at 9/8c immediately following WOW.
At this point it’s unknown if Impact will remain on Friday nights at 10/9c going forward, although it is worth noting that they would not directly compete with WWE Smackdown on FOX at 8/7c.
