Why Impact Wrestling Scrapped the Six Sided Ring and Announced Austin Aries’ Big Title Win, Update on Twitch Deal

New Impact Wrestling creative Executives Scott D’Amore and Don Callis participated in a media conference call today, and below are some call highlights via PWInsider.com.

On the decision to scrap the six-sided ring in favor of the four-sided ring, Callis noted the only argument for keeping the six-sided ring is that it looked different. He added the four-sided ring makes it easier for the talents to bump in, so the decision was made to return to the traditional ring setup.

Impact Wrestling announced last night that Austin Aries returned at the tapings in Orlando and defeated Eli Drake to become the new Impact Global Champion. When asked why Impact decided to spoil the news themselves before the title change aired on TV, Callis said he knew other media outlets would eventually report the spoiler so he wanted to beat them to the punch by having Impact announce it first.

With regards to Twitch, Callis confirmed the company has a deal in place which will see Impact air old and new, original content on the streaming service provider. Callis added behind-the-scenes content, featuring the personal lives of Impact Wrestling talents, will also be created for Twitch streaming.
