IWGP U.S. Title Match Set for New Japan Showdown in San Jose

Lance Archer is set to make his defense of the IWGP U.S. Heavyweight Championship next weekend when New Japan Pro-Wrestling returns to the San Jose Civic in California.

The Suzuki-Gun star teamed with Minoru Suzuki and Zack Sabre Jr. this Sunday at Power Struggle in a 6-man tag team match against Los Ingobernables de Japon’s Shingo Takagi, SANADA and the returning EVIL, who has been out of action with an ankle injury for about two weeks.

After the match, Archer and his squad continued to brawl with LIJ all around the arena, until the champion stole a headset from the U.S. commentary team and issued a challenge to David Finlay for a match in San Jose.

The seeds for this one were planted on Oct. 14th at NJPW King of Pro-Wrestling when Archer defeated Juice Robinson to win the vacant title. After beating down Juice after the match, Finlay surprised everyone in attendance by hitting the ring and going blow-for-blow with the imposing superstar.

Finlay, 26, has been out of action since February due to suffering a torn labrum during a match where he and Juice teamed up against The Briscoes during a cross-promotional event with Ring of Honor. For those unfamiliar, yes, he is the son of wrestling legend Fit Finlay.
