Former NXT Tag Team champion Johnny Gargano is heading back to his old stomping grounds in EVOLVE Wrestling. The company is holding an event in New York during the weekend of January 18, 2019 and according to his Twitter, Johnny Wrestling will be there.
EVOLVE fans are surely ecstatic about this news. Gargano worked for the company from 2009 to 2016, where he held the EVOLVE Tag Team Championships along with current WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre. Gargano credits much of the success he has in Vince McMahon’s company today with the experience he acquired working in EVOLVE Wrestling.
This move suggests that WWE is continuing its cooperation with smaller pro wrestling companies. Fans have certainly noticed this trend, which has also included WWE working with Impact Wrestling. Many past Ring of Honor stars are now top guys in WWE, including Seth Rollins and Daniel Bryan. WWE has not shied away from mentioning ROH as a company, or its influence over the current crop of Superstars on both Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live.
Johnny Gargano is currently feuding with former NXT champion Aleister Black. Gargano was credited for putting Black on the shelf due to a sneak attack during an episode of NXT. Johnny’s heel turn has actually seen him reunite with his former DIY tag team partner and hated rival, Tommaso Ciampa.
I'm a firm believer that you should NEVER forget where you've come from.. you stay loyal to those who have been loyal to you.
I can safely say that I wouldn't be the wrestler I am today without EVOLVE.
