IWGP champion Kazuchika Okada recently commented on the G1 Climax tournament kickoff. The event will take place on July 6 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, making the first time that the tourney has begun in a country outside of Japan.
The Rainmaker talked about the importance of this event, as well as what fans in Dallas can expect from the New Japan stars.
“MLB opening day was held in Japan this year. For G1 Climax to open in the U.S. means that NJPW is expanding into the world and its fantastic.
I wold like people who don’t know New Japan Pro Wrestling to see this event. It’s a series with spectacular matches so come watch it live in Dallas.”
The G1 Climax in Dallas is the American followup to the G1 Supercard that took place on April 6. That was another historic night for the company, as it was the first time that a pro wrestling promotion outside of WWE had run Madison Square Garden since 1960.
Okada won the IWGP Championship for the fifth time that night and now he’s back on top of New Japan. The company is continuing to push outside of its borders and having Okada as the top guy is important, as he is widely considered by many fans to be the best in the business today.
