Kota Ibushi Dethrones the ‘Rainmaker’ to Advance to the 2019 G1 Finals

The “Golden Star” Kota Ibushi defeated “The Rainmaker” and reigning IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada on Saturday to officially win the A Block of the 2019 G1 Climax tournament.

Ibushi ends his journey through the A Block with 14 points, with the tiebreaker over Okada sending him to the finals on Monday, August 12. Along the way he scored victories over Lance Archer, Bad Luck Fale, Okada, Will Ospreay, Zack Sabre Jr., SANADA and Hiroshi Tanahashi.

It’s not yet clear who he will be facing in the G1 Finals on Monday, but it will be determined on Day 18 of the tournament on Sunday, August 11. The four stars remaining in contention are Toru Yano, IWGP Intercontinental Champion Tetsuya Naito, Hirooki Goto and IWGP U.S. Heavyweight Champion Jon Moxley.
