As we noted earlier this week, despite speculation stemming from current WWE TV story lines, Daniel Bryan, as of December 4th, has not received clearance from WWE to return to the ring.
Bryan will be special guest refereeing an AJ Styles vs Jinder Mahal Title match at the Smackdown tapings the night after Christmas, and along with his current WWE TV story line speculation has been rampant that the angles are setting up his ring return, however that is not the case. WWE booked Bryan to be the special guest referee for the match to help with sluggish ticket sales in the Chicago market since WWE is running the same venue the night before for the Raw tapings.
Looking to Bryan’s future, however, The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting Vince McMahon has told Bryan that the final decision on his in-ring future will come from WWE’s Dr. Joseph Maroon, and until Maroon clears him he will not be able to wrestle. If Dr. Maroon does decide to clear Bryan in the future, there has been talk of having Shane McMahon vs Daniel Bryan take place at WWE SummerSlam next year in Brooklyn, NYC.
It should be noted that Bryan has said he wants to return to the ring once his WWE contract expires in October of this year, however, he made it very clear that for his family’s sake, he will not return to the ring if he receives any kind of negative medical test result.
