AEW has posted the first episode of its Road to Fyter Fest series. The event will take place on Saturday, June 29 in Daytona Beach, Florida. Fyter Fest happens in conjunction with the CEO Fighting Games Championships.
Much of the reasoning for AEW’s involvement with the CEO event lies with Kenny Omega, who is an avid video game player. Fyter Fest brings that world together with the pro wrestling world and it’s a move that Cody Rhodes is hopeful will be a positive for AEW.
“That’s a whole audience and family that he (Kenny) has that I’m excited for us to reach out and be involved with ourselves. You’re gonna have all types of individuals there from the E-Sports world, who perhaps aren’t into professional wrestling, or perhaps were into professional wrestling, at one time. Maybe we can sway them back in the fold.”
The episode also includes a clip of Jon Moxley, who turned the wrestling world upside down with his AEW debut at Double or Nothing on May 25. The man previously known as WWE’s Dean Ambrose is AEW’s hottest star right now and he’s also the newly crowned IWGP United States champion. Mox talked about his first official AEW match, which will take place at Fyter Fest against Joey Janela.
“When you sign that contract for June 29 Joey, you become my enemy for the duration. So take it from me–from one guy, who gives zero f***s to another–choose your words carefully, my friend. And make sure you’re sure you wanna become my enemy.”
The episode wraps up with a spotlight on Cody’s Fyter Fest opponent, Darby Allin. Allin is best known for his work in EVOLVE Westling and his match with Cody marks his AEW debut.
