DIY has once again come to an end. The March 13 edition of NXT saw Johnny Gargano turn on his partner, Tommaso Ciampa, after their loss in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
DIY lost to Aleister Black and Ricochet and during the match, Gargano began selling his left knee after a collision on the mat. Ciampa checked on his partner but Johnny was unable to get back in and as a result, Tommaso ultimately took the pin from Ricochet.
Gargano’s wife Candice LeRae came down to ringside and when the three got to the top of the ramp, Gargano collapsed. Ciampa helped him up and in a shocking twist, suddenly grabbed him to send him straight into the LED board. Fans were hit with an immediate sense of deja vu, as this exact moment played out in 2017, when Ciampa turned on Gargano at Takeover: Chicago.
But Johnny Wrestling held on and reversed, revealing that his knee had not been injured after all. Ciampa laid at Gargano’s feet as Johnny exclaimed “Johnny Wrestling is back!”
This edition of NXT was prerecorded however and the plan was surely to book the two men at Takeover: New York during WrestleMania weekend for the NXT Championship. But Ciampa was forced to relinquish the title due to a legitimate injury and now Tommaso is on the shelf following surgery.
It's been fun, #DIY.
