Major Changes Coming to WWE Commentary Teams, Michael Cole Leaving Raw?

As noted, Nigel McGuinness has been removed from the WWE 205 Live commentary team in order to focus on the NXT brand moving to a two-hour live format starting next week at Full Sail University.

Brennan Williams, now working under the name Dio Madden, will be taking his place alongside Aiden English and Vic Joseph.

That will not be the last major shakeup to the WWE broadcast landscape.

According to WrestleVotes on Twitter, who has a reliable track record with similar stories, the “current plan” is for Michael Cole to take over as head announcer for WWE Friday Night Smackdown once the show moves to FOX in October.

Taking his place, and again this is not finalized but is the plan as of now, will be Vic Joseph from 205 Live. It is unknown whether or not he will continue on with 205 Live if moved to the lead announcer position on Raw. The other obvious question is where Corey Graves, Renee Young, Byron Saxton and Tom Phillips will land.

That last name is particularly interesting, as Phillips would have seemed like the clear choice to take over as head play-by-play announcer for Raw. All of the others are relatively interchangeable in the color commentary position, but with Mauro Ranallo in NXT there aren’t really any open lead announcer positions, outside of potentially 205 Live or NXT UK.
