Major Update On The Rock Wanting to Return to a WWE Ring

0

As we noted earlier in the week, via The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, The Rock has had interest in returning to WWE at WrestleMania 35 next year, and most recently, Rock spoke publicly about wanting to return to a WWE ring while being interviewed on the red carpet for ‘Skyscraper’.

“I can’t wait to get back into a WWE ring,” The Rock told Cathy Kelley. “Because everybody always asks me, ‘what’s it like being in a WWE ring, and I always tell them…there’s nothing like it. There’s nothing like inside of a WWE ring because there is a certain live crowd acumen, there’s great connective tissue that is second to none.”

You can hear more from Rock in the above video player.

On today’s episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, host Dave Meltzer said The Rock does, in fact, want to compete at WrestleMania 35, and added the following:

“He wants to wrestle at WrestleMania. [WWE] wanted him last year. He was originally supposed to be in the Kurt Angle position. But he had filming stuff, if there’s a movie project, or something he has to film at that time or a week later, it makes it difficult because of the injury risk.”

Meltzer added that The Rock wanting to compete at ‘Mania is not a guarantee that he will be there, as his movie career likely comes first, and if between now and WrestleMania a movie project comes his way which needs his attention, The Great One would likely choose the project over WWE:

“If there’s a movie that he wants to do, he’s not gonna turn down a movie that he wants to do to do WrestleMania, that doesn’t make any sense,” explained Meltzer. “But if there’s no movie project on the table that he wants to do, and he wants to do WrestleMania, then I’m sure Vince [McMahon] isn’t gonna go, ‘hey, we don’t need you, we don’t want you.’ Especially trying to break into China, because The Rock’s movies are doing just giant business in China.”
