New Japan Pro-Wrestling held a press conference this morning in Tokyo to officially announce the full match card for their upcoming ‘G1 Supercard’ event with Ring of Honor, set to invade Madison Square Garden in less than two weeks’ time.
In the first of two big championship matches freshly announced for the event, Los Ingobernables de Japon leader Tetsuya Naito will put his IWGP Intercontinental Championship on the line against Kota Ibushi in what will be his second defense of the title. Ibushi scored a huge victory over Naito in the first round of the New Japan Cup to earn the opportunity.
Zack Sabre Jr. will also be in a big championship match at the world’s most famous arena, defending the RPW British Heavyweight Championship against Hiroshi Tanahashi. Much like Ibushi, the Ace scored a quarterfinal round victory over ZSJ in the New Japan Cup.
