New Japan Pro Wrestling has announced a second stop on its upcoming Southern Showdown tour in Australia. The announcement came on April 18 on New Japan’s website.
Last week, New Japan Pro Wrestling announced its long-awaited return to Australia, with the major event NJPW SOUTHERN SHOWDOWN in MELBOURNE taking place in Melbourne’s Festival Hall on Saturday 29th June. In response to overwhelming demand from our passionate Australian fans, we are delighted to announce that an additional event has been added to the weekend. Sunday 30th June will see NJPW hit the University of New South Wales Roundhouse in Sydney. This smaller, more intimate event will be exciting coda to the events in Melbourne the previous day. Tickets will go on sale on Friday 26th April at 12.00 pm, noon, AET (11.00 am JST).
This is surely great news for Australian fans, who have waited for the company to finally make its way back. This tour is just another example of New Japan’s push to extend its reach beyond the Land of the Rising Sun. The company has ventured into the United States as well of course and the next major show, the G1 Climax, will take place on July 6 in Dallas, Texas.
But New Japan’s most historic night in America to this point came on April 6 in Madison Square Garden. The G1 Supercard was a cross-promoted event between New Japan and Ring of Honor, which featured top stars from both companies. The main event of that show saw Kazuchika Okada become the IWGP champion for the fifth time when he defeated The Bullet Club’s Jay White.
