When WWE NXT star Marina Shafir made her live event debut a couple weeks ago, fellow Four Horsewomen member Jessamyn Duke was scheduled to make her debut alongside Shafir, however that never happened and only Shafir debuted.
According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Duke’s debut was delayed as she is currently slightly banged up, but she recently worked a practice match at the WWE Performance Center to evaluate her current status. The feeling is she needs more real-match experience before making her live event debut, but by all accounts she is said to be doing very well in NXT.
On a related note, a lot of praise has been rained down on the MMA women in WWE, as Ronda Rousey has received rave reviews for her few matches in WWE, and Shayna Baszler, Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke are all said to be excelling when it comes to quickly picking up pro wrestling. As it relates to Ronda Rousey, The Observer noted it’s somewhat unfair to compare Rousey to the other three women, as Rousey’s matches have been heavily produced, and her bout at SummerSlam against Alexa Bliss is expected to be no different. The Raw Women’s Title match at the big PPV this month is expected to be planned, move-by-move, ahead of time.
With regards to MMA fighters in WWE, more people in the company are open to the idea of recruiting talents with MMA backgrounds given how well the current fighters are doing in WWE. Women who are coming into the company with athletic backgrounds are excelling at a faster pace, and it was noted that Mae Young Classic competitor Kacy Catanzaro is one name that is said to be impressing, with one source claiming she could be on the WWE main roster today.
