New Japan Pro-Wrestling has announced the complete match card for the opening night of the 2019 G1 Climax tournament, set to take place at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX on Saturday, July 6th.
As noted, due to his contractual status with All Elite Wrestling, IWGP U.S. Heavyweight Champion Jon Moxley will not be appearing on the show, but will rejoin the tournament the following week in Japan when the B Block begins its grind.
Several huge matches have been booked for the show, which will mark the first time in history that the world’s most grueling tournament comes to the United States. To mark the occasion, one of the biggest rivalries in NJPW history will headline, as “The Rainmaker” Kazuchika Okada and “The Ace” Hiroshi Tanahashi, who hold an astonishing SIX “five star” matches in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, go to battle one more time.
We’ll also see KENTA (fka Hideo Itami) return to the ring in a potential show-stealer against the “Golden Star” Kota Ibushi”, and IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay with a lot to prove as he takes on Suzuki-Gun’s big, bad Lance Archer.
Here’s the final match card:
