NJPW G1 Climax Kicks Off Tonight in Dallas – 5 Tournament Matches, Okada vs Tanahashi, KENTA Debuts & More

New Japan Pro-Wrestling returns to the United States this evening for the start of the 2019 G1 Climax, bringing the most grueling tournament in pro wrestling history to the west for the very first time.

Tonight’s show will see five big singles matches from the A Block, headlined by one of the greatest rivalries in the history of Japanese wrestling, as IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada faces off against “The Ace” Hiroshi Tanahashi one more time. These two could pump out “five star” performances in their sleep.

G1 Climax in Dallas kicks off at 6PM ET and will be broadcast on AXS TV in the United States, as well as NJPW World internationally.

In another highly anticipated contest, the “Golden Star” Kota Ibushi takes on KENTA (the former Hideo Itami) in what could be a show-stealing performance. KENTA has a whole lot to prove returning to Japan after such a disappointing run in WWE, but he’ll have to get through one of the top wrestlers in the world and a potential front-runner to win the whole tournament.

Another key match to keep your eye on, IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay has his first G1 Climax match ever, after demanding a spot in the tournament to prove the best junior in the world can hang with the best heavyweights on the planet. He’ll be up against Suzuki-Gun’s big man Lance Archer, who will be looking to make a name for himself as his long-time tag team partner Davey Boy Smith Jr. has left the promotion, making him a singles star once more.

Sanada and Zack Sabre Jr. square off in a battle of New Japan’s hottest rising stars, and two of the hardest hitters collide as Bullet Club’s Bad Luck Fale battles Los Ingobernables de Japan’s big EVIL, rounding out the first five tournament matches of this year’s G1.
