Everyone is on Smackdown Live
In terms of the main roster, Smackdown is clearly the A show. One reason is that Tuesday nights are STACKED with talent. The Blue Brand has the likes of AJ Styles, Daniel Bryan, The Man, Randy Orton, Rey Mysterio, The Miz, Samoa Joe, Charlotte Flair, Jeff Hardy, Shinsuke Nakamura, ‘The Best in the World’ Shane McMahon, Asuka, The New Day, The Bar, The Usos, Rusev, and Andrade “Cien” Almas. Smackdown has so many people that most of the talent cannot appear on most episodes (cough cough Andrade Almas). This leaves only a few notable upper mid-card or main event players on RAW. Individuals such as Jeff Hardy, Randy Orton, and Shinsuke Nakamura aren’t having matches each week because of the large amount of talent needing showcased. But this is a good problem to have. This is similar to how NXT models their programming due to their taping schedule. The counter to the Smackdown talent occasionally wrestling is RAW’s stagnant repetition of the same matches each week. I mean how many times do I have to watch Seth Rollins vs. Dolph Ziggler or Finn Bálor vs. Baron Corbin?
Fix It: With how bad RAW has been, I don’t want to wish the pain of moving from Smackdown to RAW on anyone. I understand that there are many injuries on RAW. Among those injured are Alexa Bliss, Braun Strowman, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, and Fandango. We also have lost Matt Hardy who recently retired, Roman Reigns who is battling Leukemia, and Bray Wyatt who hasn’t been seen in months. RAW’s roster is certainly not in a renaissance period at the moment.
RAW’s 3-hour plays a role in this as that is one more hour than a show like Smackdown has. Thus, the talent will be more stretched on RAW than Smackdown. But we still have a few strong names on Monday nights. We have Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, Finn Bálor, Drew McIntyre, Dolph Ziggler, Braun Strowman, Bobby Lashley, Elias, and that’s about it for the men.
I would suggest a temporary fix while we wait for those injured to heal. Give us longer wrestling matches. Remember that gauntlet match that solidified Seth Rollins as Monday Night Rollins? The last things I want WWE to do right now is call up anyone from NXT. I hate to say this, but maybe a return by John Cena could reignite things on the red brand. Couple that with a Bray Wyatt (and maybe Luke Harper) return and we could have something. John Cena has transitioned into a role where he has been building stars and putting people over. The feud Cena had with Kevin Owens and his United States Championship open challenges were great. We need a few “big names” to show up on RAW each week to stabilize things before it gets worse.
