Mandy Rose Crushes Naomi’s Hopes & Dreams
I’m probably in the minority on this one, but I’ve actually been enjoying the program between Naomi and Mandy Rose on Smackdown Live. Sure, it’s cheesy. Maybe you could make a case for Mandy’s “home-wrecker” gimmick being a throwback to times we don’t want to remember. I get it. But I actually like Jimmy and Naomi in promos together. For obvious reasons they have a natural chemistry most fake wrestling couples try and fail to emulate.
Mandy has actually improved greatly in recent months (I first noticed it during the women’s Survivor Series match) and it’s clear WWE is very high on her right now. I like that improvement yields more opportunity, and this kind of minor story, out from under the lights of PPV or a bigger title picture, is exactly where she needs to be.
Anyways… One of the best moments of the 30-Woman Royal Rumble match came when Naomi expertly tightrope walked the edge of the barricade, leaping back to the ring steps and to safety, only for an already eliminated Mandy to come running around the corner, pulling her to the floor and crushing all Naomi’s hopes and dreams of main-eventing WrestleMania. It was a simple thing, only took a few seconds to execute, but they both played it off so well. I actually want to see another match between the two on Smackdown soon.
