Bayley Profile

Pamela Rose Martinez was born on June 15, 1989 in Newark, California. She has been a fan of professional wrestling since she was a child, attending shows by the independent Big Time Wrestling in Northern California.

She started her professional wrestling career in 2008 at the age of 18 by attending Big Time Wrestling’s training classes by their head trainer Jason Styles. She wrestled under the name “Davina Rose” in the independents until 2012 with more losses than wins to her name.

In December 2012, Martinez had signed with WWE and made her debut for WWE’s developmental territory NXT wrestling under a mask. She then adopted the ring name “Bayley” and made her NXT television debut in a loss to Paige. She then attempted to win the Diva’s Championship and NXT Women’s Championship to losing efforts.

Bayley eventually got her first win by teaming with Charlotte Fliehr against Alicia Fox and Aksana. A faction known as the BFFs (Beautiful Fierce Females) consisting of Sasha Banks and Summer Rae attempted to convince Bayley to join them. In a twist of events, Charlotte attacked Bayley during their match against the BFFs and then Charlotte joined the BFFs instead.

Bayley then formed a brief alliance with Natalya Neidhart, defeating Sasha Banks in both tag team and singles matches. Bayley later defeated Banks again to become the number one contender to Charlotte’s NXT Women’s Championship. Her attempts to gain the title thereafter were unsuccessful.

She continued to feud with Banks and was attacked by her former friend Becky Lynch, who allied with Banks. Bayley later formed an alliance with former rival Charlotte to feud with Banks and Lynch. In one instance, Bayley was attacked by Banks and Lynch, injuring her knee in the angle.

She returned on the January 21, 2015 episode of NXT, saving Charlotte from an attack by Banks and Lynch, and then later attacked Charlotte herself in an attempt to get another shot at the championship which she was unsuccessful at getting.

Bayley then began a feud with Emma and Dana Brooke for a long while. There were a series of solo encounters and tag team matches with Bayley teaming with Charlotte with either one becoming victorious.

After much work and determination, Bayley defeated Becky Lynch to become the new number one contender for the NXT Women’s Championship. She eventually defeated Sasha Banks to win the NXT Women’s Championship for the first time. Banks then challenged Bayley to a rematch in the first ever women’s 30-minute Iron Man match in WWE history. Bayley retained the belt by defeating Banks with 3 falls to 2 after securing the third fall with three seconds left the match.

Bayley then successfully defended against a whole host of challengers which made up most of the NXT roster. In 2016, Bayley dropped the strap to Asuka in April 2016, ending her reign at an astounding 223 days.

After a brief hiatus from in-ring competition, Bayley returned on the May 18 episode of NXT to mostly losses including an attempt to regain the title from Askua.

On the August 22 episode of Raw, Bayley made her official main roster debut where she confronted and challenged the Raw Women’s Champion and old nemesis/partner Charlotte to a title match. Charlotte forced her protege Dana Brooke to face Bayley whom Bayley would defeat.

Bayley was unsuccessful in winning the championship thereafter. She did feud with Brooke she entered a feud with Brooke with the two engaging in winning and losing tag team and singles encounters. Bayley has some career success thereafter by defeating Nia Jax to become the number one contender to Charlotte Fliehr’s championship.

As of one day prior to the creation of this post, Fliehr defeated Bayley to retain the WWE Women’s Championship at the 2017 “Royal Rumble” Pay-Per-View event.

This exciting up-and-coming superstar has the talent, charisma and drive to be the next Women’s Champion. With lady luck and perseverance on her side, Bayley will be likely to eventually usurp Fliehr of her crown and make WWE history.
