This beautiful Diva was born Maryse Ouellet on January 21, 1983 in Montreal Quebec, Canada. Ouellet was a born leader, running her high school’s fashion show and later developing a line of cosmetic products. She eventually became a model, winning the title of Miss Hawaiian Tropic Canada in 2003. She would later appear on the cover of Playboy magazine and in Muscle & Fitness.
In 2006, Ouellet tried out for the WWE’s Diva search and made it to the top 8 contestants, but was ultimately eliminated. Nonetheless, her attractiveness and charisma got her a contact in the WWE’s developmental territory of Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW).
She had a stint as the manager for Sylvain Grenier who would go on to be a 4-time WWE Tag Team Champion. OVW soon became Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) and Ouellet debuted in this new promotion as manager for Ted DiBiase Jr. and Ryan O’Reilly (later Konnor of the Ascension).
In early 2006, Ouellet appeared on Smackdown! known simply as “Maryse” in a series of snippets on the TitanTron and later in a sample of a music video she has appeared in. She was portrayed as a villainess with a snobby superiority complex.
She partook in a swimsuit competition against Eve Torres, Michelle McCool, Victoria and Cherry which ended up in a brawl. Cherry was the valet for the tag team Deuce ‘n Domino who eventually dumped Cherry for the services of Maryse.
This led to a feud between Cherry and Maryse with either one emerging as the victor. The French Canadian then made a few attempts to contend for the newly developed WWE Divas Championship, but failed.
In 2008, Maryse’s ambitions to become the Divas Champion had not faltered and she challenged then champion Michelle McCool to a losing effort. Things didn’t get much better as Maryse joined other Divas like Jillian Hall and Natalya to losses as well.
Finally, Maryse got her big break when she defeated Maria to become the number one contender for McCool’s title. On the following episode of SmackDown!, Maryse dethroned McCool to become Diva’s Champion and hold her first title in the WWE.
After being sidelined temporarily with a knee injury, Maryse returned as a commentator and attacked the WWE Women’s Champion Melina after a match on Raw. The ensuing feud between Melina and Maryse culminated in a Champion Vs. Champion lumberjill match which Maryse won.
Despite her championship status, Maryse teamed up with old rival McCool to lose to Melina and Maria in a tag team match. Further to this, Maryse lost her first title defense by Disqualification to Gail Kim, but retained the title. To make matters worse, she lost the Miss WrestleMania battle royal at ‘Mania XXV which was eventually won by Santino Marella in drag (don’t ask).
Maryse was then drafted to the Raw brand, taking the Diva’s Championship with her. She started feuds with Mickie James and Kelly Kelly, eventually dropping the title to James at the “Night of Champions” Pay-Per-View event after an impressive 216 day reign.
After undergoing knee surgery, Maryse returned to television and resumed her feud with Melina, the Divas Champion at the time. She would defeat Melina and Gail Kim with Hall as her partner.
Melina eventually had to vacate the Divas Championship owing to injuries, hence a tournament was established to crown a new champion. Maryse naturally participated and plowed through her competition with her trademark “French Kiss” DDT move to eventually defeat Gail Kim in the final round to become the first Diva to hold the title twice.
As champion, Maryse became involved in a 5 on 1 handicap match against Beth Phoenix and in a 10 woman tag team match at WrestleMania XXVI. She would eventually drop the title to Eve Torres on Raw and failed to regain the strap in subsequent rematches.
In 2010, Maryse reunited with Ted DiBiase as his valet. The two became mentors for Brodus Clay on the NXT program, but Clay traded both of them for Alberto Del Rio. She and DiBiase would enter a feud with Goldust after he stole the Million Dollar belt from DiBiase, which led to an intergender tag match pitting DiBiase and Maryse against Goldust and Aksana to a loss.
In March, Maryse became the co-host of NXT alongside Matt Striker. This infuriated DiBiase who forced her to make a choice: be with him or be with NXT. She chose NXT, ending her relationship with DiBiase. After being off television owing to recuperation from surgery, she was released for the WWE in October, 2011.
For the next year, Maryse worked as color commentator for Family Wrestling Entertainment (FEW) but was called back to duty in the WWE in 2016.
She returned on Raw, and assisted her husband, The Miz win his 5th WWE Intercontinental Championship reign by distracting his opponent Zach Ryder. Maryse now became her husband’s manager and the two were deemed the “It” couple.
Maryse and Miz were transferred to SmackDown! and Maryse would continue to interfere in matches so her husband could defend his crown. The Miz would eventually drop the strap to Dolph Ziggler owing to the fact that Maryse was banned from being at ringside.
The Miz would have the last laugh as he won the title for the 6th time from Ziggler once again owing to Maryse’s interference on his behalf.
In late 2016, Maryse and Miz became involved in a feud between Dean Ambrose and Renee Young, an interviewer. Maryse was subsequently fined $5000 for slapping Young and Miz dropped the belt to Ambrose.
The next duo the team would confront was that of John Cena and his girlfriend/now wife, Nikki Bella. After an attack on Bella with a lead pipe, Maryse slapped Cena. The two couples would face one another at WrestleMania XXXIII to a loss for the heels that marked Maryse’s first in-ring appearance in 6 years.
Maryse and Miz would get drafted to Raw where Miz defeated Ambrose for the IC belt for the 7th time. Things began to falter for the “it” couple when Miz destroyed a grandfather clock Maryse had bought him as a present, paranoid that Ambrose was inside. The clock was restored, Miz apologized, but when Ambrose came into the ring, Miz used Maryse as a shield and the clock was destroyed again. This prompted Maryse to leave Miz in the ring alone.
At present, no one knows what the future holds for these WWE Superstars. Rumors have abounded that Maryse will leave the WWE, but that remains to be seen. The blonde bombshell has made her mark in the ring, and with the men she has managed.
