Trinity McCray was born November 30, 1987 out of Pensacola, Florida. In her teenage years she was a cheerleader for the NBA Orlando team and also was an aspiring back-up vocalist for a local rap artist and traveled the globe.
In late 2009, she signed a contract with the WWE developmental territory Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) and shortly after her debut as Naomi, she defeated Serena Deeb to become the inaugural FCW Diva’s Champion.
She later acquired Kelly Kelly as a mentor and debuted on NXT with wins over Maxine (aka Catrina) and in tag team encounters with Kelly. She would ultimately drop the title to AJ Lee before joining the main roster.
She appeared on Raw as a back-up to Brodus Clay in his group called the Funkadactyls. Collectively called “Tons of Funk”, Naomi would see an in-ring victory along with Clay and Tensai (aka Prince Albert) when Tons of Funk took on Team Rhodes Scholars (Cody Rhodes and Damien Sandow) and the Bella Sisters (Brie and Nikki).
Around this time, Naomi would join the cast of the WWE reality TV series, Total Divas which she would partake in for several seasons.
Naomi would lose an attempt to win the WWE Diva’s title from AJ Lee in a Fatal-4-Way also including Brie Bella and Natalya Neidhart. Soon after, Tons of
Funk disbanded and Naomi got a push, facing Lee in many championship bouts, albeit to losses.
At WrestleMania XXX, Naomi partook in the Vicki Guerrero invitational against Lee to another loss.
She would team with fellow Funkdactyl Cameron, however during a bout where they lost to Lee and Paige, Naomi turned on Cameron and attacked her, causing a feud between the two former friends.
Naomi underwent surgery for a fractured orbital bone and returned to defeat Cameron in many matches, both singles and tag team.
Naomi joined her husband Jimmy Uso in the Uso’s war against The Miz and Brie Bella. After the Usos won the WWE Tag Team titles from The Miz and Damien
Mizdow, Alicia Fox joined The Miz and engaged in a series of intergender matches against Naomi and Jimmy Uso. Naomi and Uso lost the majority of the encounters.
In 2015, Naomi defeated WWE Diva’s Champion Nikki Bella in a non-title match. When she faced Bella for the strap at the “Extreme Rules” Pay-Per-View event, Naomi lost owing to interference from Brie Bella.
Naomi would join forces with Tamina Snuka and wage war on the Bella sisters, defeating them at the “Payback” Pay-Per-View event.
After some further title challenge losses to Bella, Naomi and Tamina joined forces with NXT Diva’s Champion Sasha Banks to do battle against Paige, Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch. Known as Team B.A.D. (for Beautiful and Dangerous), Naomi and company would lose to Paige’s team at SummerSlam.
Shortly thereafter, Banks left Team B.A.D. which led to Naomi and Tamina attacking her, solidifying themselves as hated heels. Naomi and Tamina would stick together as a team and feud with Banks and her partner Becky Lynch until mid 2016. At this point, Snuka and Naomi both left television for a period to tend to injuries, ending their team.
Upon her return, Naomi was drafted to SmackDown! with a new look and a face turn. She would lose in a 6 woman match against Nikki Bella, Neidhart and Alexia Bliss and would also lose a 6 pack elimination challenge for the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship.
After a brief period off she returned to SmackDown! in early 2017 to feud against Alexia Bliss whom she defeated at the “Elimination Chamber” Pay-Per-View event to become the WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion for the first time. Unfortunately, she would have to forfeit the title owing to injuries preventing her from defending.
Later on WrestleMania XXXIII rolled around in Naomi’s hometown of Orlando, Florida where she captured the title a second time from Bliss. She would successfully defend against Bliss in a follow-up encounter, but would lose to Charlotte Flair in a non-title bout.
She had a series of successful defenses against Lana and is currently the reigning champion on the SmackDown roster.
Naomi is considered by many to be the most technically gifted athlete on the WWE Women’s roster. Her high-flying pace and arsenal of moves makes her a hit with the fans and her championship reign is sure to last the test of time.
