In 1985, WWE shot to fame with Wrestlemania One, and as we all know that was headlined by Hulk Hogan & Mr. T v Rowdy Piper & Paul Orndorff. A celebrity tag match that captured the mainstream media and the casual fan base. Thirty-three years later, Ronda Rousey enters the fold, and ‘the grandest stage of them all’ once again featured a celebrity tag match.

It’s very difficult to compare any match to the main event of the very first Wrestlemania, simply because of the impact that match had on the WWE. Without Mr. T’s involvement, the company may not have become the global juggernaut it is today. But due to the level of buzz and attention Ronda Rousey garnered, her match felt like an homage to Wrestlemania One.

However, despite the similarities, it’s undeniable that this year’s tag match was a far better outing than its predecessor. When Mr. T teamed with Hogan, there was nothing spectacular; it’s a very simple match. However, in the case of Ronda Rousey, she took on an incredible amount of responsibility in her match last Sunday.

She wrestled a large portion of the match, which also featured a lot of twists and turns.  Making it far more complex than anyone could have ever imagined. But it also meant there was a greater margin of error for all the superstars involved.
