WWE Superstar Samoa Joe recently spoke to WKDQ about a variety of pro wrestling topics. One of those topics is his current run in Vince McMahon’s company, which began with NXT in 2015.
Joe debuted on the main roster in 2017 and he’s been going strong since then. But what has it meant for Joe to be part of WWE?
“I’ve been around the world, I’ve worked for probably every organization you can think and to find myself here now, in WWE, finding success, is always a very special thing. It’s always great to reach out and meet a fanbase that you probably wouldn’t get to meet anywhere else in the world. We travel all over the place, all over the planet and to be out there, to experience our fans, it’s something special.”
The United States champion also talked about the new crop of opponents that may be lining up to face him now that he’s on the red brand. The Samoan Submission Specialist was involved in The Superstar Shake-Up a few weeks ago, which moved him from SmackDown Live to Monday Night Raw.
“We’ve got guys like Braun Strowman, who can absorb a lot of punishment. Thankfully, I give out a lot. We’ve got guys like Bobby Lashley, Drew McIntyre, it’s a veritable cornucopia of potential challengers. But I think we’ll handle them all in stride.
When you’re a champion, people come hunting for you. Let’s face it, when you’re standing on top of the mountain, there’s only one way to look and it’s down at those who are trying to get up to you.”
Joe has recently had major issues with perennial favorite Rey Mysterio. Joe crushed Rey at WrestleMania 35 and the two continued to butt heads since that time. It’s unknown if Rey will challenge for the title once again, or if Joe will now move on to his next feud in WWE.
